Sydney water now say that because we've done the whole pipe we now become responsible for their assets, outside our property boundary.
The only problem is that their assets are right in the middle of a busy road and are about 4m deep! What a great way to get home owners to fix their own assets, what a joke. Of course I've got a lazy $30k or so to spend on their pipes. I've not checked the legality of their claims yet but this is just too much. And I thought North Sydney council were bad... That's not quite right. The line out from your boundary trap through to the junction on the main isnt Sydney Water's "assets", it's part of your house drainage system even though it isnt on your property. The property owner's responsiblity extends past the boundary trap right up to the junction on Sydney water's main even though this may be out in the middle of a busy road. This is how it's always been. And in the event that the junction needs replacing, Sydney water insist upon the property owner's plumber excavating around the entire junction so that they can replace it. Thanks for clarifying.
