Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 23, 2009 3:57 pm Hey guys, we are undecided on which way to go with our ceilings. House will be approx 31 squares and is a double storey construction, which do you think would be the better option ?
A) Ground floor 2590 & first floor 2590 B) Ground floor 2700 & first floor 2400 (cost is similar to option A) c) Ground floor 2590 & first floor 2400 & save $2000 for other upgrades ? First floor will have evap cooling regardless of ceiling height. Thoughts ?? Re: ceiling heights 2Feb 23, 2009 4:36 pm We're going for option C in our house. 2400 is standard and we're upgrading to 2590 downstairs.
IMO only the ground level really needs the extra head space for an open feeling. The standard ceilings upstairs gives a nice contrast. Not sure if you have to start thinking about taller doors with the 2700 ceilings or whether it's anything above that Stevep79 & Principessa Finished building Wisdom Homes Impression 33mkII in The Ponds, Sydney http://lilypadintheponds.blogspot.com Re: ceiling heights 3Feb 23, 2009 8:03 pm Go with the high 9ft 2700mm ceilings in downstairs. Leave upstairs as is at 2400mm. Downstairs as Steve mentioned you could upgrade to large internal doors. Older houses with 3000mm or 3600mm high ceilings often incorporated a glass window above the door to allow light etc.
Its fairly common these days for entry doors to be higher than a standard door (2340mm I think) Re: ceiling heights 6Feb 23, 2009 9:21 pm I'd go B - higher ceilings give an element of spaciousness and luxury. (D) both ground floor and first floor 2700mmm Otherwise (B)... Re: ceiling heights 11Feb 26, 2009 10:38 pm Option A, because your house would be much cooler on ground and first floor.
I did 2750mm on both floor and when it was 40+ degree, the house was still reasonably cool without using any cooling. I did extended all my doors to that height to match too, so it doesn't look weird. Also make sure you have an independent inspector to check at different stages of your house. I know lots of people here do. I've got friends and neighbors ask me why i use an independent inspector, because they didn't use one and the house they build seems fine. Its like "What you don't know, then it won't hurt you" but as years gone by, it sure will, unlike any other things you buy, you are paying for it from 10-30yrs and you might live in it from 5yrs to rest of your life. Having later on down the track to find out your house isn't up to the Australia standard because the defects are slowly affecting the structure of the whole house would be way too late. Good news is, the ******* supervisors that was working on my house are no longer with Sh*tmonds. But the 2 face regional manager still is. Where are your building ken007? Yeah i had a look at Williams Landing and their plan, the proposed shopping centre is huge. Got a friend who just bought a land there. We bought our land 2yrs, so that was before Williams Landing released. joeygbh Inside or outside the house? Cause you wouldn't have much land left after that?
