Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 20, 2009 10:18 pm Okay so my terminology is not up to scrach. Along the top of our walls, like top skirking board, or is that called cornice???
Anyway, it looks like someone has done a bad job patching it. My Brother in law said, it looks like the nails they have used to attached it to the wall is showing through. Does that make sense it looks like a crumble patching job and yet to get close to see what it is really like, anyone able to help from that vauge discription i have given We are very late 20's with 2 kids, wanting to invest in real estate and get of the working treadmill. Re: patching top skirting/cornice 2Feb 21, 2009 9:15 am Yes that's cornice. Skirting goes round the floor.
From what you've desribed and where you live i guess you'd either have a queenslander or a post war. So your cornice will be timber. If the nail holes are showing through it should simply be a matter of cleaning out the old filler, re filling, sanding then repainting. Use spak filla or something similar, not a 2 part filler. if the cornice has been damaged and has had a ******* filling job it might be necessary to cut out the damaged section, find some matching cornice (finlaysons will have a match) then fit a new piece of cornice. Re: patching top skirting/cornice 3Feb 24, 2009 1:02 am not sure if it has been damaged, still to have a decent look at it, appears problem is only in the living area.
