Not sure if this is the right place for this but here is where I ended up
Ok my question is I worked for a company that did work for all sorts of buildings in a large Australian City.
Over the last year or so we were pressured into saving money anyway we could as their profit margins were shrinking.
Their main issue with me was to use a standard material instead of a more expensive fire rated material or my job would be gone.
It got to the stage of were, I had to lie and say I used standard when in fact I did use fire rating as I couldn't bring myself to do it.
To cut a long story short I left the company at the end of 08 due to the continuous pressure to cut costs and the stress of juggling and hiding types of product in product deliveries.
I want to be clear that I'm not here to air dirty laundry. I'm very happy in my new job and I harbour no ill feelings with the old company, other then with this safety issue.
I know for a fact that others in this company, did and still do, fail to use fire rated materials in building sites around this city
Nearly every building site knows to use fire rating and ask, but they don't have any idea they are being mislead.
One looks like the other and 99% of people couldn't tell the difference.
So I'm here because even though I still did the right thing with my own jobs, I feel I didn't do the right thing with what I believe was a failure of my duty of care with the public.
I keep thinking about this and I'm not sure what to do.
What are peoples thoughts on this? and I welcome any suggestions of courses of action.
Thanks
