Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Ceiling cornices or not? 22Mar 14, 2009 10:26 am I was thinking of doing square set just in the kitchen/meals area but now maybe all downstairs and just do plain cornices upstairs for the bedrooms etc
Zerosignal If your builder will not do square set corners ask if they will do Gyprock shadowset. http://www.gyprock.com.au/resources/new ... homes.aspx Does anyone have any better photos of this product installed or display homes in Melbourne using it? Re: Ceiling cornices or not? 23Mar 14, 2009 11:18 am The ShadowSet looks great judging by some of those photos. I'm now inclined to use them in my new house. I have a few raked ceiling thoughout my house especially my kitchen/dining room where we have our ceiling is raked at two different angles. Do you think I should square set them or use ShadowSet? They are quite high. Re: Ceiling cornices or not? 24Mar 14, 2009 12:07 pm How about this
This is a good page for seeing the different shapes of the cornice out there. http://www.lunavalk.com.au/product_list ... cat3%5D=-1 I am going for Tempo through out the living areas of my house which has a great modern look to it. Don't breath in Asbestos Re: Ceiling cornices or not? 27Oct 13, 2010 9:13 pm Cornice fan here. We live in a period home with a modern extension (built before we bought the house). I always thought there was something strange and unfinished feeling about the new part of the house, then I realised it's because there is no cornice (9' ceilings), I don't think I've ever lived in a house without cornices before. Re: Ceiling cornices or not? 28Jul 14, 2019 3:52 pm They both traditional serve a purpose. If you have an older home like my parents 100 plus years old the walls are stop short before the cornices and skirting boards which are lot taller then modern versions. As it is a timber house this allows for movement of the timber and the stumps underneath the house. Having worked as a painter I can tell you, there is certainly more damage in the form of wear and tear done to walls in houses without skirting boards. Mops, brooms, vacuums, furniture ect. Having worked patching the bottom of walls in many homes without skirting boards I would never own a house without them. In modern houses cornices normally serve the same purpose as they traditionally did as most builders install them as standard so that if the wall is not perfectly flush is doesn't matter as they will be covered. Squaring the ceiling and the wall perfectly can be difficult especially as no house is ever completely straight. Thanks for sharing. Looks good. The joiner has come back with a quote of close to 5k.
