Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 18, 2007 12:38 am Having a hard time finding information. I'm concerned that this drought will start causing me grief with the foundations on my house and my familys. I'm on stumps, but my parents and brother are on slabs. We have all noticed large cracks starting to appear on our lawns due to this drought.
What issues does this pose for our foundations in relation to land shift, are there ways to ensure a more stabble foundation. Thanx, David Re: Concerns on foundation during drought 2Feb 18, 2007 7:54 am Just thinking about it logically (although I'm probably wrong!) you would think that a foundation laid during a dry period would move less than one laid when the ground is fully saturated - meaning that as it dries, it shrinks and cracks open, meaning the slab would move too. I don't know that it could move a lot if the ground is dry and compacted to start, and then becomes wet.
I know that a lot of people trying to sell houses with cracks (internal or external) wet around the base of the house to swell the ground and close the cracks. As far as long term effects of drought-wet-drought-wet I have no idea of the impacts on a house... but then I guess whatever the problems arise there will be others in the same boat! I hope an expert can answer cos as I say, I'm probably wrong! Ray. Second Time 'Round Thanks for all replies. I just noticed now the pictures I added to post right on top of page were wrong.
