Re: Garage Renovation 2Feb 01, 2009 8:02 pm I would only change the art deco ceiling light it doesn't go with the overall post-modern decor.

Well, OK... here goes... forget the whirly birds if the heat gets in you are done... it's too late. So stop the heat from getting in - get some shade cloth and mount it about 150mm from the walls and roof all round the outside using timber battens (keeping the timber to a minimum as you want air flow). This will keep the corrugated iron out of the sun. Be sure to leave plenty of ventilation for air to pass between it and the walls. You will need a window - ask me for a used double glazed window out of your change and put this in your south wall. And that's is as good as it will get for your budget. Cooling and Ventelation: Use Cover the place with Shading Cloth using Timber Battens and possibly and exhaust fan in the window placing Cleaning: (I need a place to put the hardware, thinking of boxing it) Locks: Standard lock for wooden door (Need more security for big outer door) Notes: Is there anything to know about when working with asbestos (IE: Cleaning / Painting?) Re: Garage Renovation 10Feb 02, 2009 12:31 am Mate good luck. The whole shed is made of asbestos by the look of it to me.
Please be aware that it is exceptionally dangerous to cut this material in any way. You cannot even hose it with high pressure safely. Do a google search on handling asbestos before you touch anything. Re: Garage Renovation 11Feb 02, 2009 8:38 am Strip off the existing roof and wall sheeting and start again.
Use the existing structure as a base, and properly insulate it, and seal it. Just a thought. pat. Re: Garage Renovation 12Feb 04, 2009 6:33 pm As the others have said the 'structure' seems to clad with asbestos. There are laws regarding handling this stuff and of its disposal/alteration.
Looking at the project and the questions you ask, I think perhaps you have little experience in being a 'hands on' person and the costs for work entailed could be prohibitive. Perhaps painting the Eiffel Tower with a toothbrush would be easier? Arfur Re: Garage Renovation 13Feb 04, 2009 6:58 pm So basically - everyone is saying the opposite to me. Where I said ditch the ceiling light and keep the rest - the majority is saying keep the ceiling light and ditch the shed. I guess that won't leave much out of $200...
