Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 28, 2009 9:18 am Hi guys,
I'm interested in getting some feedback on this. We lodged an application on November 18th with our council for a variation on a building envelope. Basically it was to "allow eaves to protrude the set building envlope". This was supposedly to take 3-4 weeks. Now well over two months since it was lodged (and yes I'm taking into account Christmas) it is just getting ridiculous. I had a voice mail from the planner handling my application on the 15th January telling me I will have it "early next week", being 19th-21st. Now the 28th I still don't have it and everytime I call I cannot get onto the planner. Should I continue to call or refer this to someone higher on the foodchain or should I physically go down there kicking and screaming until I get it. They haven't said there were any issues with it and have given no indication it will be rejected, upon submission they said it should be totally fine. I've also got building quotes about to expire and I'm worried they will requote with a higher price. Cheers, Bailey. Just ask the front desk what's happening. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: At what point do you crack it with the council? 4Jan 28, 2009 11:57 am Breakthrough! I don't belive it.
I rang the council an hour ago to complain to a manager but the receptionist had to take a message. I just got a voicemail message from the planner saying it is all done and I can pick it up this afternoon otherwise he will post it out. Amazing, I should've complained two weeks ago. Ours took 12 weeks and we were constantly being told it would take another 2 weeks. Then we were told ours was 'done', but the approval needed approval. Then they misplaced it! I only found this out after my 3rd follow up call to which I was told it would be another 2 weeks! Yep - I 'cracked' it and it was done in 4 hours. Run. Don't walk to your council and get it. Stand there and wait if they haven't got it ready. Camp there if you need to. Re: At what point do you crack it with the council? 7Jan 28, 2009 4:00 pm well I went through a supposed planning permit time of 12 to 13 weeks and it took nearly 9 months.
The building permit took 10 weeks (supposed to take 4 to 6 weeks) Re: At what point do you crack it with the council? 8Jan 28, 2009 4:02 pm Hooray!
I went and picked it up! I can't believe it! I feel like we can finally get the ball rolling. Our design has been resting upon getting this approved otherwise we were going to have to loose our alfresco and redesign most of the house. Just waiting on final quote from our friend who is an independant builder and then we can make our decision on who we are building with. I hope the building permit doesn't take too long, at least both the builders we are deciding between have dealt with our council regularly. Don't know whether that makes a difference or not. Cheers guys. Bailey. Energy efficient custom built house - Moving In 3 Weeks Re: At what point do you crack it with the council? 10Jan 28, 2009 4:19 pm I'd say you did well to get it in that time! Our local council advises 10-11 weeks for basic dispensation, add a few more weeks onto that for anything related to a planning permit!
