Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 27, 2009 8:05 pm Hi,
I am being given the run-around by each and every pool builder who is tendering on our block. Basically, we have 2 small (ish) Gums which are going to be close enough to the intended pool position to be a concern. Both gums are roughly 7m tall. One is right on the pool boundary/fence line, and will come out, but the other is 6.5m from the pool edge. Are gums a problem (apart from the leaves)? I heard that they are serious water seekers, and their roots can do big damage in years to come. Is there a difference between fiberglass or concrete pools when it comes to root prevention? Just wanted to hear the opinion from people who aren't pool salesmen! Thanks, Jonathan Building the Caprice33 by Provincial Homes. Can't speak about gums in terms of pools, but getting the approval to remove from council can cause problems. Not sure how your council 'values' gum trees - if you haven't already, you might want to research. Cheers Bel Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Pools and distance to the nearest gum 3Jan 27, 2009 8:53 pm Hi Bel,
Council shouldn't be a problem to remove the one tree. It's the other one that I need to check on - we'd actually like to retain the tree, but just worried about the proximity to the pool. I had an arborist out to look at the trees today and I got the full run down re CRZ (critical root zone), PRZ etc etc. We will put in a DA for it to be removed.
