We have been staying near Tarneit (a street away) for 1 year, so far so good..minor hoon issue at the road near our court street but nothing major so far. The suburb is very big so it really depends on whereabout in Tarneit. Cheers Re: Tarneit Suburb 3Jan 24, 2009 6:06 pm sweety Is this area is secured? Yeah they've nearly finished building a big fence around it to keep illiterate people away. Actually, Tarneit is just a typical, new suburb on the fringe of the urban area. My SIL lives there and has not had any issues so far. Welcome to the forum, sweety. Re: Tarneit Suburb 4Jan 24, 2009 6:17 pm Hi Sweety
Have lived round the area for nearly five years and have chosen to build here. Hubby and I both travel over an hour to work but we love the quiet lifestyle out here. There are many new developments around at present so shop around. no coffee? no work!!! The Big M - PCI complete bring on handover Re: Tarneit Suburb 5Jan 24, 2009 11:40 pm Hi sweety, we recently bought a block at Tarneit, really for affordability, would have preferred a bit closer to the city, even Wyndham Waters interested us, but overpriced for what it is. Because we are not from around Tarneit, we want to know the sort of things you do too!
Schools worry me a bit, and it is quite a way from the city, but only 5mins drive to werribee plaza... so that's good Are you looking at any particular estate out in Tarneit? Annie A thankful person is a happy person. Better known will be Westbourne Grammar and HeathDale Christian College. I know of ppl who are staying in this area sending kids to Bacchus Marsh Grammar as well. Furthermore, a new Select School (similar to Melbourne High) will be starting in the area in 2011. Cheers Re: Tarneit Suburb 7Jan 25, 2009 12:07 pm hysterical1144 Annietom Schools worry me a bit, Annie Furthermore, a new Select School (similar to Melbourne High) will be starting in the area in 2011. Werribee i think Re: Tarneit Suburb 10Jan 25, 2009 10:23 pm we're looking at building on leakes road, at tarneit gardens, its a quiet road (dirt track) now, but when its upgraded, i'm wondering if its going to end up like francis st in yarraville for traffic, especially trucks.
im a truckie myself so it wouldnt bother me, but more for the resale value in the future. i guess its impossible to predict such things. tarneit needs a pub though! Re: Tarneit Suburb 11Jan 25, 2009 10:36 pm beattun tarneit needs a pub though! Ahh amen! Seriously lacking in pub/eat out facilities. Leakes Road is going to at least a 2 lane each way road in the future (I have read that they have discussed 3 lanes but I think that is off the table for now) As for trucks running through the residential part I don't really think so, hard to imagine why they would travel that far down. All the industrial parts of Leakes Road are less than 2 minutes from the Princes Fwy and 10 minutes from the Western Ring Road. Re: Tarneit Suburb 12Jan 25, 2009 11:16 pm i was thinking that, about the trucks keeping down the other end as theres nothing but residential past derrimut road anyway.
i cant believe with these new estates they say theyve engineered and planned for community, so they put in parks, and lovely trees, but no PUB. the least they could do is chuck a dan murphys in there for us somewhere Re: Tarneit Suburb 13Jan 25, 2009 11:23 pm beattun i was thinking that, about the trucks keeping down the other end as theres nothing but residential past derrimut road anyway. i cant believe with these new estates they say theyve engineered and planned for community, so they put in parks, and lovely trees, but no PUB. the least they could do is chuck a dan murphys in there for us somewhere Yeah and I do not consider a food court or 'tavern' at a shopping centre to be a pub either - guess no one wants to live next to a pub though. Re: Tarneit Suburb 15Jan 26, 2009 7:57 am penjay The select entry school will be in Manor Lakes. If i am not mistaken, I think the location has been changed...read it in the local papers not too long ago. The change of location was also why the date is changed from 2010 to 2011. Either way, it would still be in Wydham council...all good... Re: Tarneit Suburb 16Jan 26, 2009 8:07 am you know this is all good, but isn't that a private school (Melb high)? same as the other good ones in our area, but we can't afford $15K per child per year!!! and that's just their fees! I wish there were more Catholics out here (lol)... (no offence to the Catholics!) A thankful person is a happy person. I wish there were more Catholics out here (lol)... (no offence to the Catholics!) I thought Melb High was a select government school (govt fees only) for boys just as Macrob is for girls. I should know this, I've taught at least a dozen of both over the years. My kids will be going Catholic - cause Gradma will kill me if I send them any where else... Re: Tarneit Suburb 18Jan 26, 2009 10:23 am Annietom you know this is all good, but isn't that a private school (Melb high)? same as the other good ones in our area, but we can't afford $15K per child per year!!! and that's just their fees! I wish there were more Catholics out here (lol)... (no offence to the Catholics!) As far as I know the select entry school would only charge govt school fees. That's pretty much the whole point, providing extension for gifted chn without the private school price tag. It will only begin at Year 9 though so you have to think of somewhere else to send your kids until then and also hope they are bright enough to get in. I was under the impression that it was to be attached to the new P-12 school opening at Manor Lakes but haven't read the local paper for a few weeks so I may have missed something. There are plenty of Catholics in Wyndham and heaps of Catholic primary schools. McKillop and Thomas Carr are the two Catholic secondary colleges in the area. If you live in Tarneit you would be zoned for Thomas Carr. Some people I know prefer a single sex setting and send their girls to Mt St Joseph in Altona. Re: Tarneit Suburb 19Jan 26, 2009 2:44 pm you are right about Melb High being govt school, but there are still fees/costs to go there... but less than $3,000 per year per child (I thinkith)...
But I had heard from a good source that GNL did not have a handle on bullying etc... these sort of things worry me too. I have only heard good things about WBG, but that is out of our financial ability... bumma A thankful person is a happy person. I have only heard good things about WBG, but that is out of our financial ability... bumma Hi Annietom, By GNL I assume you are talking about Good News Lutheran School and I would like to ally your fears some what, we have had a child there for 3 years now and she couldn't be happier, this was her third school after issues at other schools. We have another child who has just started Prep there and she loves it so much that she has spent the whole first week of the holidays crying about missing school so much!! Bullying is not something we have had many issues with, and when minor things have happened we have brought it up and it was dealt with instantly and has not recurred. The fees are also reasonable for a private school and they are building a high school at present. I would certainly recommend it if you can afford it and you don't mind religion being part of their education. Hope that helps |
