Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 22, 2009 6:53 pm We've been renting while we demolished and are rebuilding the house of our dreams. In October we were forced to move from our very comfortable townhouse we were renting because the owner sold it and the new buyers wanted to move in. We were devastated and frustrated but got lucky and found somewhere close to rent for six months. Moving though is expensive when you add up the removalist costs and the time you have to take off work. The owners of the new house were okay with the fact we were building and happy to let us extend by as much time as necessary. We've settled in, haven't really unpacked as hopefully before June (hopefully March/April) we are in our new house. Then you guessed it - the owners want to sell this house!!! So now we have to endure open houses and it all again. And all the while hoping that it doesn't sell and settle before our house is finished. I can't even contemplate the thought of our house being one of the horror's that you read about on this forum and taking so much extra time to finish off. I know I'm griping - people out there can't find a rental - but I'm just so over it!!!!!!!!!! Fi has moved in!! Re: I never want to rent again!!!!!! 2Jan 22, 2009 7:16 pm I feel your pain and know exactly where you are coming from. We are up to rental number 3, after the first 2 were put up for sale. Have my fingers crossed for you and me that our next moves will be into our own nice new homes!!! Re: I never want to rent again!!!!!! 3Jan 22, 2009 7:48 pm that does suck, here i was getting really annoyed with having 1 aircon to do the house (which fails miserably), and having the master bedroom at the front of the house with horrible vertical blinds, so basically because its always hot and sticky here we always have to have the front windows open, which blows the blinds around and we have no privacy when showering or sleeping in or anything.....
all i can say is that renting should really make the dream of moving into your newly built house even better Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. in is the thing that keeps you sane whilst living somewhere you are not 100% happy with... and we just found out this week our land title could be another 3 months. arrgghhh... Re: I never want to rent again!!!!!! 5Jan 22, 2009 9:03 pm We are in the same boat brittany, they put this house on the market on New Years Day, but privately, so they haven't had many lookers. It was actually our old house which we sold September 2007, the new owners didn't even get to sleep here...once. I am crossing my fingers it doesn't sell until we are ready to move. Half our furniture is gone now so it's not looking to inviting at the moment, with boxes clogging up bedrooms ah well. I am sorry you have to endure open houses, that's the pits, at least I was able to stipulate which days and times they bought people through.
Wishing you lots of luck. Re: I never want to rent again!!!!!! 6Jan 23, 2009 8:56 am I feel your pain. We just moved rental properties cause where we've lived the last 2 years went on the market. We didn't want to wait and see if it got sold to an investor so we decided to move closer to the block.
We were lucky that it is approx 12 months till the house will be finished, as its so hard to find a less than 12 month lease, and we didn't want to have to pay rent when we could be living in our home. If you have signed a 6 month lease though, I don't think they can make you move out until the end of that lease, the new owners have to honour it. Based on the comments on here I probably would still take the 12 months lease - more likely than not you will have to extend it and if they don't want to it will hurt more to find a new place (lease), move and then move again. The stress to me would not be worth a couple of months rent (which you could still get back if they can get another tenant in on time)... For myself, I would hate to be rushed out on something as important as my home. Re: I never want to rent again!!!!!! 8Jan 23, 2009 11:17 am You poor thing.. I feel really bad for you and I wont lie, as a former agent myself open homes are a nightmare for tentants to go through.. we were renting and moving every 8-12 months until we just purchased our new home in Cashmere, Qld. Wouldnt look back. Just try and remember its not for ever and you will be in your own home soon too That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17855 I would be wary. Is you site demilished but nothing else done? Sounds like liquidity problems to me. Our builder did the same. Got hundreds of thousands of dollars of… 2 15391 Sounds like rubbish to me. Ask for the contamination report which I doubt they have. If it's part of a normal subdivision it would have had a contamination report done… 9 5645 |
