Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 19, 2009 7:59 pm Not sure if anyone else has been hit but we have lost $1250 with Maceys - The Sleeping Giant, We had placed a deposit on our flooring with them and sadly they have gone into liquidation. Luckily we are not one of the many poeple who had paid in full and now have no carpet for their houses.
Would be interested to see if anyone else has been hit as well. Sharon & Paul ********************* Creating Youngs Castle Heywood 29 in Craigieburn http://youngscastle.blogspot.com/ Re: Carpet Company in Liquidation 2Jan 19, 2009 8:16 pm Guys!
That sux... The shops closing all around Melbourne has been a bit of a sad sight. Allegedly the guy who owned Maceys sold it to a conglomerate who expanded it and broke it. The business was apparently a great litlle 'wholesale' operation that tried to grow. I heard the original owner bought it back again ...perhaps that was not the case. $1250 is a few bucks but it could have been a whole lot worse.. Good luck guys and perhaps you can use that as a bargaining chip to get yr new carpet... I had 3 quotes today for a piece of carpet all the same room ... all the same carpet (same brand, design etc) and the quotes were from $1040 from a little guy in hallam to $1450 @ floorworld. Tell them what happened perhaps they will have some helping hand money for you Re: Carpet Company in Liquidation 4Jan 19, 2009 8:25 pm We went and got another quote on the weekend at a company near us that we should have gone to first that has been operating over 10 years. They have been really great and gaive us a price with better carpet and vinyl planks but at a much reduced price due to our situation. We were very greatful for this.
So we have a new lot and our fingers crossed.... We were also told by a couple of the poeple we spoke with that the person who owned the compan that went bust is now back into a franchise and running another store. This store was willing (or so they said) to cover our quotation but we just felt really uneasy about this, and now with all that we have learnt over the weekend we are greatful that we have gone with someone else. There is a slim chance that in 6 months we might get some of our deposit back. I guess we had to have at least one hrudle in our build! Yeah I was thinking the same thing - I wonder what they will do for us. Considering catagory 2 carpet is part of our promotion. I'd trade that for a big upgrade to the tiles any second! Then save money between now and build for some carpet :p Re: Carpet Company in Liquidation 6Jan 19, 2009 9:07 pm Maceys were also the suggested supplier with Henley too!! (or they were when we were building - offering builders discounts)
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss guys, its more common place these days....very sad to hear. Hopefully the liquidator will be able to recover adequate funds to refund you soon. I'm sure the new flooring will look wonderful!!! Re: Carpet Company in Liquidation 7Jan 28, 2009 1:33 pm Just found out about this yesterday. We need the carpets to be restretched. Looks like we are going to have to pay someone to do it now.
I wonder how many other companys are on the brink and what the situation is going to be like in 6 - 12 months time. Bleak I guess. Re: Carpet Company in Liquidation 8Jan 28, 2009 1:55 pm shazburger They have been really great and gaive us a price with better carpet and vinyl planks but at a much reduced price due to our situation. We were very greatful for this. Just wondering which vinyl plank you got and at what price. We are going with Casa brand 'Kauri'. Looks just like the karndean we had in our last house. Built a modified "Daydream 279" .. Cor@l Homes on a flat 4473m block!! And lov'n it!!! Re: Carpet Company in Liquidation 9Jan 28, 2009 7:40 pm how awful for you all it seems that is happening to so may companies these days it makes you worry if it is safe to put deposits on things for the home these days finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: Carpet Company in Liquidation 10Jan 28, 2009 8:00 pm Wonder if they will be doing a liquidation sale... Re: Carpet Company in Liquidation 11Jan 28, 2009 9:03 pm We are now having a commercial grade tile...will get the details for you..
There will be no liquidation sale as they owe too much money and have no stock left. Looks doubtful that we will get any money back...
