Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 19, 2009 7:53 pm We have been looking at a couple of blocks of land and are not sure whether
to buy or not. I have a few reservations and just can't decide whether to build again or just buy an existing house. I keep changing my mind but my husband likes these two blocks and i am simply not sure. We are at Hervey Bay and i must admit we will never probably buy a block this cheap even if the prices fall with the economic crisis. My main concern is this thing they have slapped down the bottom so you can not enter or exit via that street which means you have to go about another 5 - 10km in the wrong direction to get where you want to go and this really annoys me. The blocks that we are interested in are no 's 9 & 16, no 16 is on the high side of the street as the whole estate is built on a hill. I am also concerned about the run off water from the blocks above eg no 18,19, 54 etc. We took my Uncle and Aunty for a look yesterday and they said if it were them they would pick no 16 because of the views of Fraser Island from the front of the house. When all blocks are built on the views will probably not be as good because of other roofs and fences and so on. If someone on no 61 or 60 decide to build a high set house then we will have no view. So in saying all of this, what do you think? I am just so confused at the moment. Husband has gone from no job to 2 jobs now but job security scares the hell out of me too. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x185 ... _00000.jpg Re: To buy or not to buy is the question???? 2Jan 19, 2009 8:04 pm Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: To buy or not to buy is the question???? 3Jan 19, 2009 8:13 pm I would pick 9 on the basis that I would want any potential views towards the back of the house, assuming you would have an outdoor area?

Tough decision, not so much the land but job security. You both seem resourceful, so I think from a security point of view, if you can do it from where you stand now then go ahead... Ed Re: To buy or not to buy is the question???? 5Jan 19, 2009 8:20 pm we had a low side of the street house for our last house. We were down below street level and the houses on the other side of the street were above street level. One thing that really bugged us was that sound/noise from the houses across from us always travelled across. i.e . The guy across the road and his wife had huge arguments for 2 years that we couldn't avoid hearing. then they split and he liked to play bland 70's 80's music at top volume. We swore we'd never live on a "lower side again" At least on block 16 you could plant trees as a sound buffer from the blocks behind you , at the back of your property. Thanks for the info 6Jan 20, 2009 8:01 am Hi guys, thank for the input. Thanks Ed for your encouraging words and Kexkez that is something to think about too. I hate too much noise i must admit.
Another thing i have thought of since reading a few other threads last night is this whole thing about the fall of the land and some builders not being able to build on sloping blocks. Would i be able to ring a few builders and tell them where we are thinking of buying to see if it is possible to build on the block? We can not afford thousands extra because of a sloping block. I am not sure how much of a slope it is on, maybe 30 degree angle if that helps. In the big city, where there is nett migration you can always find a buyer if things get worse, but i hear in places of small population (relatively) you may have to wait long time to sell. Looking at some of the designs on websites, they are all selling very similar products. I get that you want something stylish.
