Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 16, 2009 10:46 am Hi all. We are renovating and are looking at buying a used colorbond double garage from a demolition place to save money. The paint job looks quite faded and I was wondering if it is possible to paint colorbond (or similar as I'm guessing thats what it is made of) and if so, what product to use? Thanks Re: Painting old colorbond garage? 3Jan 17, 2009 11:40 am Yes, as you found its quite easy. Our painters respray entire commercial sheds (like 100m long by 40m wide and 6m high) in a day.
I did my garage roller door at home, made from colourbond, with a airless spray gun i bought for $100. (great for fences) I did it in one coat but would recommend 2 very fine coats as it will run if you get carried away. Came up really well and it was really quick. Re: Painting old colorbond garage? 4Jan 19, 2009 8:29 am Thanks for the tip - I had a look on ebay and have found a couple of cheap sprayers that work out cheaper to buy than hire. Seeing as we will be at least spraying our back fence I thought it would be worth while Re: Painting old colorbond garage? 5Jan 19, 2009 9:01 am They are a good investment.
Couple of things to keep in mind, when you water down the paint be careful not to get it too runny. Its not so much of an issue on your timber fence as it will absorb alot of the moisture and the texture hides most runs but on the colourbond its important to get the mix exactly right. Just test it in an inconspicuous place first, wait a couple of minutes (cause it will look great straight up), then check for runs. and if you haven't done it before, its wise to aim to cover it in 2 light coats rather than 1 heavy coat which will likely result in runs. Re: Painting old colorbond garage? 6Jan 19, 2009 5:29 pm How do you preapre the old garage door? Sanding with fine or coarse paper, would you say? Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10106 Hi all, Our boundary perimeter fences need replacing (3 sides). From everyone's experience, what would you install? Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 2860 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 17641 |
