Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 14, 2009 10:47 pm Following on from McReidy's thread, I now have my own dilemma about what colour side fencing to get.
Here are some pics below. We are getting the side fence replaced very shortly. I was going to go with Paperbark, to match our windows, doors, rear roller door and (probably) paver colours. But then was thinking - is this too much paperbark in our alfresco area? Also Stormy's comment in McReidy's thread about how light colours make a feature of the fence had me thinking maybe we should go for Woodland Grey instead - to match our roof and guttering. Luckily the next door neighbour seems fine with anything I pick Another factor I have to take into consideration, is the back fence, which we also want to replace, eventually. Our back neighbour already has one side fence in Paperbark (or some creamy colour maybe not Paperbark). So they will probably want the same colour for their back fence too, right? So who gets to choose the colour? I know this is probably jumping the gun a little bit, but it would be easier if we both wanted the same colour, and if I made the side fence Paperbark now, then the back fence decision will be much easier later. side - looking from alfresco to rear (all the Paperbark windows etc are in alfresco area) side - looking from rear back to alfresco alfresco opposite side fence - with lots of paperbark (imagine possibly Paperbarky coloured pavers in here) back fence to replace soon-ish other side fence for good measure - this one is not that old and won't be replaced anytime soon thanks all for your opinions Re: Another side fence colour decision... 2Jan 14, 2009 11:01 pm I personally would go for Paperbark with Woodland Grey posts. Matches your house in every way then.
I think Woodland Grey as the main colour will close in the space. It will also get hotter because it is a darker colour and could make your oputdoor area unpleasant in warmer weather. Just my thoughts. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Another side fence colour decision... 3Jan 15, 2009 11:29 am thanks Jo it's a nice idea, but I think I'd prefer to have the fence all in one colour ... having different coloured posts might make it stand out even more, making more of a feature of the fence???
what do others think? Re: Another side fence colour decision... 4Jan 15, 2009 12:09 pm Hmmmmmmm....tricky b/c of the neighbour's already Paperbark fence (which, yes, I would imagine they would want to stick with)......
I would still say Woodland Grey, and even if over the back want a Paperbark rear fence, you could quite easily spray your side Woodland Grey. Possibility???? Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Another side fence colour decision... 7Jan 15, 2009 1:51 pm I also think the dark colours look best... but we are talking about metal and small children... I think the extra heat the dark colour holds (and it's considerable) has to be considered. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Another side fence colour decision... 9Jan 15, 2009 2:16 pm Also remember the glare of the light colours……the fence is quite close in some places, the glare off the fence into the windows will be great!
I have a light colour up the driveway, walking to the drive from the house and my office is quite bright. I think I am leaning towards Woodland Grey......
the glare is an important factor thanks Mich. I was thinking about this with the pavers too after reading that other thread. I reckon there's a chance the back neighbours won't want to replace the fence anyway, as they have a lot of 'stuff' attached to the fence that is there and might not want the hassle of moving it. So we might have to bear the cost of replacing it anyway, so in that case I could choose what I like... Re: Another side fence colour decision... 12Jan 15, 2009 3:55 pm Woodland Grey for me Donuts, I think that will look lovely with your house colours. Lighter coloured pavers will open the area up more too. I love our dark fencing Happy at Home Re: Another side fence colour decision... 13Jan 15, 2009 6:26 pm SuH This is a good point which I hadn't even considered. We were leaning towards Dune, would this be too light and glary, does one reckon I think Dune should be ok Sue……I have the Colorbond roofing/fencing colours as a my mouse pad on my deask, the fencing colours are different to the roofing the colours. Good thanks Re: Another side fence colour decision... 15Jan 15, 2009 8:23 pm I vote for Woodland Grey too, Donuts. It will look stunning. Light colours do stick out more than dark colours for fences, and once you have it all landscaped, the plants will stand out more with the darker fence at the back. A friend who built about 2 years ago has charcoal coloured fences and it looks fabulous. I don't have a photo at the moment, though. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! did you ask them to leave the fence that high to fit sleepers underneath or is that standard?
