Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 14, 2009 4:28 pm Hi all
New to the forums, will be trying to read up alot more now that i've got more time. Have just spent the last 8 months building our new home with Darnley Homes. I was wondering if anybody here has built with them and what your experience was like. They are a mid tier builder, similar to builders like Stonehaven, Bellemore, Englehart, Rustic, Inform Design etc. For us, the building process and dealings with them were great. No horror stories thankfully. We've finally moved in although there's plenty of work to be done on the outside now. I had quite a bit of hard landscaping done, just need to work on finishing it with soft landscaping which I would like to try to complete myself. I've got a blog here >>> http://chris-jo-darnleyhome.blogspot.com if anybody would like to have a look at it. Regards Chris Re: Darnley Homes 2Jan 15, 2009 10:54 am Looks fantastic, we looked at Darnley and loved everything about them from especially their finishes. Unfortunately they were out of our price range but is they were we would definately have used them over anyone else.
Good luck, hunts Re: Darnley Homes 3Jan 15, 2009 2:54 pm Hi Chris,
Looks fantastic, you have done a great job with the retaining walls and fences, they look great, did you do them yourself? I know Darnley is in East Doncaster and tipping from the style of house around you, you are in the area and also the retaining walls (the lovely hills of East Doncaster / Templestowe) are a bit of a giveaway. We are building in Warrandyte, but our building experience hasn't been so great, our builder went into voluntary liquidation so we are finishing off as an owner builder. I noticed your crossover and you said you are waiting for the exposed agg driveway, have you had it done yet and have you been happy with the work, if so could you pm me the deatils of your concrete guy as am getting a few quotes for our driveway at the moment. The house looks great ,congratulations. Enjoy Re: Darnley Homes 4Jan 16, 2009 3:49 pm Thanks for the replies.
laldous - No I didn't do the fences myself, had to get the professionals in to do them. I wish I could have, it would have saved me quite a bit of money, but not having the required tools and experience, I thought I'd just pay up and get it done properly right away. The aggy - no it's not complete yet. It was supposed to be done by late Nov, but here we are. Unfortunately, the concreter had a couple of full slabs basically destroyed with the Melbourne down-poor in November and he had to do them again, then getting Mentone Pre-mix to supply the aggy we wanted after all the delays to various jobs, our job and others just had to get pushed back. They had the aggy ready for us for Tuesday when it was going to be 39c, but the concreter advised not to get it done in such heat, so early next week It's unfortunate all this occurred because it's not really a reflection of the concreter, just bad luck and circumstance. My supervisor from Darnley actually recommended the company and use them for their slabs etc. I will PM some details for you to pursue if you like. Cheers Chris Ask for references and speak to them.
