Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 06, 2009 9:29 pm We are sick of deciding whether to let the flies in or suffer in the stuffiness!
We really need flyscreens throughout, wondering if anyone has any good recommendations in Melbourne (central to west regions). I did a search and found flyscreens.com.au, whom I have asked for a quote, and one place out in Hallam which is a bit too far for us. Anyone had any installed that they are happy with? Did they colour match to your windows? And, if you are willing to share, approximate cost? (Our house is 4 brm + study around 30 squares) thanks all Re: Recommendation wanted for flyscreens Melbourne 3Jan 06, 2009 9:45 pm thanks borg, that is a lot cheaper than I was expecting! Would that include installation or is it one of those super easy things that I should be doing myself?
Not sure where my windows are from, I will have to check my contract. Do most window companies also make flyscreens then? Re: Recommendation wanted for flyscreens Melbourne 4Jan 06, 2009 9:55 pm Some window manufacturers make screens - almost all can supply them.
I recommend Timbarra in Hallam, have used them for about 8 yrs. Mention my name to Andy or Julie. All flyscreen manufacturers will be very busy right now so don't expect to get them today... Re: Recommendation wanted for flyscreens Melbourne 10Jan 07, 2009 9:06 am Sharee We got a qoute yesterday for $40 per window and $250 per sliding door, I actually thought that was okay and was going to put a deposit on today, so is that expensive then? I haven't recieved a final cost, but apparently our builder charges $30 per window... and that's with their margin, so $40 does sound highish. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Recommendation wanted for flyscreens Melbourne 11Jan 07, 2009 9:39 am Donuts ours were supplied through Lock u Tite 9708 6086 and the cost for our windows (x20) was $514 (per PD) they are woodland grey to match our windows There is also Southern Star 5277 7200 and they match colours too. Happy at Home Re: Recommendation wanted for flyscreens Melbourne 12Jan 07, 2009 9:45 am The simplest solution is usually to ring the window manufacturer who supplied your windows. They'll have all the sizings for your house on their computer - all you need to do is give them the address (with lot number) and they'll be able to give you a quote.
It might not be the cheapest way, but it's definitely worth investigating. I rang Bradnams on Monday to get a flyscreen for our sliding door - all the window screens were supplied as part of our contract, but not the door - and the price for my 2100 x 2410 door screen was $107 if we pick it up from Dandenong, or $239 to be delivered and fitted. Obviously a sliding door screen is more expensive than a standard window, as it has extra hardware and a stronger frame. And it's a big one too.... With our last house, we rang A & L, who made our windows, and they just delivered screens for the whole house. We fitted them ourselves, it's really easy - at least with sliding windows. Awnings might require some minor handyman work with a drill and screwdriver. No - they fit A&L as they have the same groove size... just don't fit otehrs, and otehrs don't fit A&L... but most suppliers keep both. Every supplier can match teh colours. Do any of the windows have a sticker on them? Or maybe if you check your contract documentation, that may tell you who the manufacturer is. Or you could ring the builder and ask.
