Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 03, 2009 8:17 pm We have found a house that we would like to buy. It is a double story with three bedrooms upstairs. Downstairs is the laundry and double garage. At the moment it is too small for us but has the possibility of extension as under the house is a split level slab and I believe the height is legal height for building under.
My question is how much would it cost to add a rumpus and an extra room or two under the house on the existing slab? I think when the people initially built the house they allowed for extensions to be possible. TIA Re: Cost of adding a room/rooms 3Jan 04, 2009 3:34 pm A guy I work with added a big rumpus out the back and it ended up costing around 20k (but he needed to lay concrete from memory).
My sister-in-law is currently building in underneath her Queenslander and she has estimated 60k to owner build in the bottom level (not including the slab), but I'm sure she has a kitchen and bathroom going in too and it's a really large house. I think when the people initially built the house they allowed for extensions to be possible. TIA Generally extensions are going to cost a lot more per square than building clean, especially if it is under or over something. I'd say something like 12-15k per square (9m^2) is reasonable considering building new is like 6-8k per square. The extra cost is to cover contingency because of the unknowns when dealing with something already built. http://www.homedesigndirectory.com.au/c ... age2.shtml Hey, I am wanting to add a second toilet to my house, bit we have limited room.
