So older more traditional homes with archs? New modern homes without? Michelle 2) I prefer archs around doors, but depending on the window and it purpose, I like to see the decretive windows with NO archs. So a feature window without archs? When you say you prefer archs around doors does that include bifold doors? French doors? Sliding doors? Entry doors? Our entry frame is quite heavy and can only be designed without a reveal in a brick veneer construction and therefore has no archs, but aluminium entries are probably more biased to newer style homes anyway. Traditional homes, proper traditional homes, large wide decorative archs and trims. I think traditional French Doors, are complement by archs and trims. Again this is hard; it’s also a personal choice. The one BAD thing about NOT having trims and archs are the obvious…….they get knocked around more and the paster chips. i voted square set because personally i think they look cleaner, crisper, more modern. I've seen them on the Vantage window display at Bretts and it looks great. However, i would just do it for windows...clean and modern is nice but no trims i think can look stark. I think the skirting would come to an abrupt end with no architraves on the doors (cluth77 already pointed this out). For our renovation we are doing skirting and archs on doors but square set windows and no cornices. Having said that I agree with Michelle - architraves suit traditional style homes. if i ever have the fortune of renovating an old queenslander i'll definitely go with architraves and ornate cornices. Basically i think the more choice the better. There are a number of styles of design and I think it's great to offer the square set as an option. Re: Architraves around windows and doors OR square edge plaster? 28Dec 31, 2008 5:18 pm hey eco
thanks you have answered all my queries. I still think the architrave add some stegth in the door frame, and holds the plaster in etc. But that is just my opinion. I have one area where I can use your product. I am currently building a house with floor to ceiling tiles in the bathrooms and your product will be great for the windows in these rooms and may be the door, Can you still have architrave on one side? I would llike more info please eco. thanks Re: Architraves around windows and doors OR square edge plaster? 29Dec 31, 2008 5:39 pm Square set is best :
I've got those in my 30 year old house - and had them in my last one which was 110 years old - why would you do anything diifferent. Most manufacturers can make a window with no reveal that can be tiled into with some good planning. Re: Architraves around windows and doors OR square edge plaster? 33Jan 01, 2009 3:44 pm Can you put a couple of photos on or link to a website on the topic showing what the square set windows and doors look like??
Sound good in theory! Definately Square set for walls and ceilings, it would be good to see the alternative to architraves for the window and door's. I lived with it for 3 years with 3 kids under 3! Trust me, the plaster gets knocked around big time! Chips off everywhere, even with the mesh corner strips. I would never have it again if the house was to be shared with kids. If it is just for adults, I'd go for it as I liked the look. I voted square edge plaster as my preference purely for looks - I think it looks a lot more 'high end' than the standard architrave.
Of course , it is a lot less practical, as I imagine it would be far less hard wearing (and having 4 kids I guess I need to consider this.............. ..sigh....next house!!!! ) We would have loved square set plaster, too, but PD don't offer that! Anyway, as far as the windows go, EC, from an aesthetic point of view , square edge gets my vote! Oh,and from an out of pocket POV - much difference????
