But to open the barrel, there are a few screws that are hexagon shape and are deep inside the screw holes. I have yet to find the right tool to unscrew them. Anyone done this before??
If you go out and get some torx bits (as previously suggested) it might pay to buy them in one of those sets (like Stanley produce) that includes a screwdriver handle - the reason I say this is that the plastic boss' in which the screws are threaded are not that strong and when retightening can be destroyed by the torque of a cordless drill; I would suggest dismantling and reassembling "by hand" if possible.
I had to do this to the turbo head of our Dyson as the central spindle had become fouled with detritus.
Bewarned - the innards of a turbo head is not a user servicable component; but, being an Industrial Designer I am quite skilled at taking things apart even if they are not meant to...getting them back together is another story...
And yeah, Dyson's are the greatest - the most convincing proof is when you bring your new machine home, vacuum the house with your old machine then go over it with your new Dyson - it'll suck your socks off.
