Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 19, 2008 6:29 pm Hi, we are having great difficulty getting insurance on the house we are going to be demolishing in about 3 weeks.. No-one will insure it as it is vacant. We have found one building company that will insure it for about $550 but you can get it for a year and as we only need it for such a short time it seems pretty expensive. We are obviously pretty nervous about having anyone on the block before the demoliton/build happens as we have no public liability insurance at the moment. We had this great idea of selling the sheds/oven/hot water service on e-bay for some much needed cash, but realised halfway through the listing that it was probably unwise to have strange people on the block using power tools to remove the items, so had to cancel the listing. Once the demolition/builders are onsight they will at least have their insurance. Not sure what else to do? Re: Difficulty getting insurance on demolition block 2Dec 19, 2008 6:34 pm You got to be careful about insurance. Its not like car insurance when it comes to public liabilty in most cases.
Yeah if someone get hurt and they sue you the insurance company will pay first. But if can be preven that you were negligant there is nothing stopping the insurance company coming after you for money. Just think what a building site would look like if everyone had insurance then couldnt give a damn about safety. If your worried about people getting in, make an attempt to seal the property by putting a temp fence in front for example. We had this happen to us last year and got charged a variation. Try and give away as much as you can that is usable to charity otherwise if you are in Sydney I have a… 1 4629 We've had the offer of a short term tenant whilst waiting for CDC/DA home approval and demolition for our knock down rebuild. It would achieve a pretty low rent as it's… 0 13971 |
