I'm thinking I'm going to put a toilet in the garage that can be accessed from the outdoor spa when it goes in. Seems to make sense. Does anyone know if it is ok to just have the toilet on the slab? Or does it have to be tiled on the floor like an indoor toilet? Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. The whole garage will be painted with that sealing stuff. The black/grey stuff. Is that sufficient or does it still need to be tiled? Happy to tile if need be.... just need to figure out the budget. Blog: http://thereluctantbuilder.blogspot.com/ Re: Toilet in the garage, does it need tiling? 8Dec 19, 2008 1:38 pm Yeah I guess issue isn't so much the budget. The toilet is basically for when gardening, when using the spa or for muddy kids when in the backyard.
My preference is actually not to have tiles as I want to be able to hose it out if need be. (chlorinated water, mud) And I don't want to worry about grout at all. I'm actually thinking it would be best with a drain if possible. I just need to know if that is acceptable or if it has to be tiled for some type of occupancy issue or something. And if I did tile I'd do it the same as the house tiles.... won't be that price. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Toilet in the garage, does it need tiling? 9Dec 19, 2008 1:53 pm Jo - is it not included in your tiling to all wet areas? We too have one in the garage and it is tiled in the same manner as the other powder room - and also has a central drain - which all wet areas have to from memory? Some things are worth waiting for. It's not included and I'm not sure what it will come with. We have final quote (tender, prelim contract, whatever peole call it ) on Monday so will have to decide then. In Victoria we don't have drains in wet areas. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Toilet in the garage, does it need tiling? 11Dec 19, 2008 2:35 pm borg Without getting into detail the concrete slab is a pourous surface. Polished concrete floors are being increasingly specified by eco-house builders for their thermal mass properties. They are usually epoxy coated to seal the surface. I can't see why a normal slab can't be sealed in the same way Re: Toilet in the garage, does it need tiling? 13Dec 19, 2008 4:15 pm I'm having a toilet in my garage for the same reasons and the tiling for it was just put in, I didn't ask for it, not sure if this is due to building codes. I presumed when I asked for it, it would just be on the slab. I really like the idea of no grout, though. Re: Toilet in the garage, does it need tiling? 14Dec 19, 2008 4:26 pm fairy blue.... you wouldn't have a plan of your garage by any chance?
I'm still toying with where to put the toilet.... external access etc. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Toilet in the garage, does it need tiling? 15Dec 19, 2008 4:29 pm I have somewhere. Give me a moment and I will try and find one or scan one and post it. Re: Toilet in the garage, does it need tiling? 16Dec 19, 2008 4:45 pm Why don’t you tile around it after handover?
Toilets sit on slabs anyway….no biggy there, you just have to worry about the excess moisture going into the slab and the possible smells that can come from that. Tile around it later. My plan might not be much good to you because we have altered the garage so it is on a bit of an angle to the rest of the house, because of the block shape. We added the toilet and a store room to 'fill in the gap'. You will see what I mean when I finally get it uploaded and posted. Keep your fingers crossed. I haven't done this before. Re: Toilet in the garage, does it need tiling? 18Dec 19, 2008 4:46 pm By the way, I think it’s a good idea to have a loo near the spa. Michelle you really need to start reading the whole thread! My preference is to just leave it on the slab seeing as it is for the spa and muddy kids etc....
