Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 18, 2008 12:03 pm A house I’m going to look at on Sat has major power lines, (and LOW ones at that,) 4 houses away.
Does anyone have any info on the damage they can do? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Major Power lines over houses? 2Dec 18, 2008 1:24 pm Yes I do... I used to be in the HV power industry and knew a couple of guys who died - I believe as a result of proximity to HV power lines.
There's a good NZ study I will see if I can dig it out... Radon daughters forming, depleted melatonin in the body not removing free radicals, leading to cancer (plse don't give me a hard time for the technical bumfff...) But I would not live anywhere near.

Or you could wear a lead suit.
Or better still think of your grandkids health stay where you are and be happy... Tel. 1800 326 326 Re: Major Power lines over houses? 17Dec 19, 2008 1:21 am I don't know if this will relate to you, but we couldn't get LMI for the loan on our first block of land because it was too close to the HV lines, which in turn caused us to lose our deposit from the builder, etc. etc.
They wouldn't give us the LMI because of the risk of a low resale - something to think about. After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: Major Power lines over houses? 18Dec 19, 2008 9:09 am Hi Michelle.
We currently rent very close to a substation (three houses away). I realise this is a bit different to the HV overhead lines, but even the tiny substation has caused us lots of grief... we have huge problems with electrical surges and noise when the generators go on. Again, this is different to your issue, but still electrical And, I know there's no "conclusive" scientific evidence, but I'm sure we've all heard about the cancer clusters that seem to "somehow" occur amongst people who live near HV overhead lines... Plus - they look ugly Re: Major Power lines over houses? 19Dec 19, 2008 9:15 am Michelle - my dad worked in the electrical commission for 42yrs before retiring. He wouldn't even park his car under one of the large tripod type power lines. He said that too many things were unexplained about the effects long term on the human body.
We were always under strict instructions not to buy a home anywhere in the vicinity of one. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Some things are worth waiting for.
