Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 19, 2014 4:07 pm I am having a flat kliplok roof replaced, so now is the time to get some insulation in. There is no cavity in the ceiling that I know of, more or less just the depth of the rafters. I am on an occasionally busy road (peak hour rat run), so thinking of acoustic and thermal properties of insulation. Plus it is my bedroom, so the quieter the better. I rang Bradford, and was recommended Anticon 60 (R1.3) which is a foil backed blanket for under the roof, and Soundscreen batts (R2.5) laid on the ceiling. The suggested R value for Sydney is R3, so not sure if this is overkill. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I met with a roofer today and he will do the insulation too. The roof started leaking two days ago, so the sooner I make up my mind the better, and can let the roofer know so he can finalise the quote and book the job in. Re: Best insulation for flat metal roof 2Mar 19, 2014 4:15 pm Okay, just read another table that suggests R4 for Sydney roofs. Should have mentioned the roof is north facing and unshaded. I'm also wondering if the colour of the kliplok is significant; was thinking of "Paperbark" which is lightish. Re: Best insulation for flat metal roof 3Mar 20, 2014 6:48 am Good choice Nibbles55. The cost stepping up from R3 to R4 insulation is not significant but you will get a lot more comfort and lower heating and cooling bills in that area by doing so. The roof colour will also help. Stewie Re: Best insulation for flat metal roof 4Mar 21, 2014 10:35 am Thanks Stewie. Good news is the leak didn't recur in last night's showers, though I had the bucket lined up in case, so I am not so stressed about everything. I also noticed at the paint shop yesterday they sell adhesive patches that can be used for DIY repair of small ceiling holes, so I may not be up for the cost of a ceiling repair once the roof is finished. Fine with me... just let 'em step in with some affordable (but good) gear... 12 5515 I would suggest you simply go and talk to council about your proposal, most councils are getting onboard with ancillary dwellings. There is no benefit in keeping it… 1 4162 I think I know the answer but just checking to see if anyone has had experience with it. I want to build a small 20 square metre retreat in my backyard, it will have a… 0 13986 |
