EPA investigates rotten rubbish smell in Caroline Springs near Ravenhall landfill site http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/ep ... 6683856140 They are saying they have only had 42 compaints, next time the smell comes around I think we should all call the number and bombard them so they can get to the bottom of this becoming a joke Re: Brimbank Gardens, Derrimut VIC 983Oct 02, 2013 8:19 pm Hi all, Does anyone have any recommendations on a landscape gardener or landscape architect they've used? We've finally started our backyard and want to install a deck and pergola that will be attached to the house. We're aware we need a permit from council and we'll need to get someone to do the drawings professionally etc. Would be awesome if someone could recommend an electrician aswell! Many thanks in advance. Re: Brimbank Gardens, Derrimut VIC 984Nov 07, 2013 8:39 am You know you live in the west when your visitors shoes get stolen from outside your house. Re: Brimbank Gardens, Derrimut VIC 985Feb 21, 2014 10:00 am Hey guys, I dont know how many of you use this site still but I though this would be the best way to share this info.... Boral are seeking permission to make a landfill extension - thats right an extra large tip right near our homes... that means that pungent smell in the air that we get every time the wind blows the wrong way will be worse and stronger, not to mention the possible health side effects we could end up with from all the chemicals and toxins that are dumped there.. Heres the website with all the info http://stopthetip.com.au/join-the-fight/ Re: Brimbank Gardens, Derrimut VIC 986Feb 21, 2014 3:20 pm OurFlagstone2150 Hey guys, I dont know how many of you use this site still but I though this would be the best way to share this info.... When: Wednesday 26 February 2014, 7pm Where: Catholic Regional College, 10-28 College Street Caroline Springs I'll be there! Re: Brimbank Gardens, Derrimut VIC 988Mar 10, 2014 11:13 pm Folks, I am sure no one wants a bigger rubbish dump near our homes. Please show your support and email/post your protest. It's as easy as filling in your name, email ID and address if you wish to email the Council [Option 2]. http://stopthetip.com.au/join-the-fight/ Re: Brimbank Gardens, Derrimut VIC 989Mar 11, 2014 9:46 am First of all, I live in a different state to you, but just looking at the stop the tip site, I thought you were talking about a brand new tip being developed, rather than a old tip being expanded in size (albeit quite a large expansion). The site says it's going to be 15 storey high, when it was originally a quarry so I expect it would be filling a huge hole in the ground. That site talks about asbestos, contaminated soil, and tyres. Does that tip already accept those items ? if so, then surely state and federal laws require specific handling requirements that they must already follow, so there would effectively be no change to what already happens there. As far as buffer zones are concerned, that is the fight that you should be fighting for, as fighting to have the tip closed down just won't get the result that you desire. Fighting to ensure that appropriate buffer zones are installed and maintained is what you should be concentrating on. I'm assuming this tip has been operating for quite a number of years now, i.e. long before you bought your block of land. If so, then you knowingly bought in to the area, fully aware of its operation. Caveat Emptor !!! Tip operating in a quarry owned by a big corporation would tell me not to buy anywhere near it, as it would remain in operation for well over 20 years, if not longer ! As I said earlier, the stop the tip mob should be fighting to ensure that appropriate buffers are installed and maintained. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Brimbank Gardens, Derrimut VIC 990Mar 19, 2014 10:36 pm Hi bpratt, Appreciate your suggestion wrt the buffer zones. Just to clarify a couple of points you've commented on:
As stated on the Stop The Tip website, what we, as a community, are looking for is that (to quote) Quote: Any proposed expansion of the Boral Deer Park tip should be subject to a full community and stakeholder engagement process. As far as the tip is concerned, all I am currently looking for is status quo! Re: Brimbank Gardens, Derrimut VIC 991Mar 20, 2014 8:31 am umdas As far as the tip is concerned, all I am currently looking for is status quo! As a resident of Brimbank, I totally agree with your comments. I thought that hearsay and assumptions is the wrong way when going about this. BUT! when Boral decided to put up signs like Approved Quarry Future Landfill Site I think all is fair now. As far as the tip is concerned, all I am currently looking for is status quo! That's the point you need to make, that the tip is currently not licenced or handling hazardous material, it never has in its lifetime been allowed to accept that type of waste ? Expansion as long as it remains on its OWN property with appropriate buffer zones, then I can't see any realistic way of stopping it. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
