Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Asphalt Driveway 2Dec 03, 2008 9:12 am stu Does anybody have any idea how much a asphalt driveway costs per Square meter (average driveway slope) or if there are any better cost effective alternatives. Cost effective alternative = dirt or gravel Sorry I can't be of more help but at least I'll bump your thread to the top Stevep79 & Principessa Finished building Wisdom Homes Impression 33mkII in The Ponds, Sydney http://lilypadintheponds.blogspot.com Re: Asphalt Driveway 3Dec 03, 2008 10:13 am Hi stu,
We are having something called a "2 coat seal" on our driveway (part of a small subdivision). The engineer explained that is the cheapest of 3 alternatives -2 coat seal: relatively cheap, not as durable as the others but easily repaired -asphalt: more durable, but more expensive and harder to repair -concrete: very durable, but very expensive We will most probably have some sort of concrete at the top of the driveway, imediately outside our house. As for cost, our contract shows the following Sub-base course 1 (150mm FCR) - $13.70/sqm Base course (100mm FCR) - $11.80/sqm Road seal (14/7 2 coat seal) - $12.10/sqm We haven't had it done yet, so I can't comment on how it looks or the quality. Hope that helps 'chelle We have a hand-over date...15/10...but I won't hold my breath! http://people-in-glass-houses.blogspot.com/ Re: Asphalt Driveway 4Dec 03, 2008 1:13 pm Just found this:
http://www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/WebFiles/Council%20Services/Roads%20and%20Drains/reseal_info.pdf It goes into great detail about those and some other options. Re: Asphalt Driveway 6Dec 03, 2008 8:54 pm Yes, it does sound thick...I'm just trusting that the engineer knows what he's doing and that we are not getting ripped off . As I said before it is for a small subdivision, so the driveway will service 3 lots not just ours...don't know if that makes a difference
As for the breakdown of "Road seal (14/7 2 coat seal)" ...I'm not sure, but after looking at your link, I'd say that the 14/7 might refer to the diameter of the blue metal in the aggregate? Great link by the way, I've saved it for future reference on maintenance. Sorry I can't help further. Re: Asphalt Driveway 8Dec 05, 2008 8:28 am Sounds like you may have got the more expensive pre m ixed asphalt option . The option id be looking at involves spraying the bitumin on first and then pressing the aggrigate into it. I believe the costs are dramatically reduced by doing it this way. Of course your more expensive way will last longer, thats why they use it for main roads. Re: Asphalt Driveway 9Dec 05, 2008 10:33 am My brother just had a 120m long and 3m wide driveway done in asphalt. It also has a very large turning and parking area near the house. It has very substantial concrete edging all the way along it and it cost 22k. It looks to be a very high standard finish. Re: Asphalt Driveway 10Dec 05, 2008 11:26 am You need to get some quotes from some professionals in your area.. maybe try local paper.. costs for concrete I can tell you depend on your location, site, what prep is required, finish etc. To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9862 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10940 |
