Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 01, 2008 2:59 pm Ok so the latest dilemma we have is that the side of our house which shares the fence with our neighbor (as we are on a corner block) is quite close to the fence... now we have the morter in our bricks as ROLLED so its not fluch with the brickwork. The Builders have not been able to access that side so have left it flush (not matching with the rest of the house).
Its not that visible as it sits quite close to the fence, but we want the whole house the same as we did not pay for it to be like that!! The only way for them to fix this problem is to remove the fence on that side... which we though would be fine until our neighbors have said NO to the idea!! Do we not have a say in this? why should we put up with one side of our brickwork diff to the other bcuz of sooky neighbors!! any advise?? Building Urbanedge Larne 002 Re: BRICK WORK DILEMMA!! 2Dec 01, 2008 3:42 pm if they cannot access that side then how did they build the wall there in the first place? to get any finish at all, flush, rolled or otherwise, surely they would have had SOME access?
How big is the space between wall and fence? Re: BRICK WORK DILEMMA!! 3Dec 01, 2008 4:04 pm They must have built the wall from the inside ?? there is only about 15cm from the brickwork the the side fence....... and i wouldnt call it flush its all just pretty messy on the side against the fence except for the top half of the brick work which is rolled because theres no fence to cover it! Building Urbanedge Larne 002 Re: BRICK WORK DILEMMA!! 4Dec 01, 2008 4:09 pm AH ok that makes sense building it from the inside, but I can imagine it must be messy on the other side!
Bit rude of your neighbours not to agree to move the fence I assume you would've put it back up for them at no cost to them, so they could have put up with a little bit of inconvenience in the interests of neighbourly harmony! Re: BRICK WORK DILEMMA!! 6Dec 01, 2008 6:08 pm Its important bcuz we know its there and its not the same as the rest of the brickwork. Once the temp fencing is down and everything is cleaned up it will become a lot more noticable im sure.
We may have to go and have a chat to the neighbours, to see if we can get further with them then what the brick layers did. Re: BRICK WORK DILEMMA!! 9Dec 02, 2008 8:25 am We have some good news!!
We decided to go and give our new neighbors a visit last night to have a chat to them about removing the fence... Turns out no one ever even approched them to ask if they could even take it off the fix the brick work! cheeky lazy builders!! They were more then happy to do it as that side of the house is visible to them and would like it neat aswell! The were lovely and even invited us in for coffee P.s- Never take your builders word for everything! Building Urbanedge Larne 002 Re: BRICK WORK DILEMMA!! 11Dec 02, 2008 10:17 am It's a good thing you've talked to neighbours otherwise it may cause unnecessary animosity between neighbours! Could be builder don't want to fix the problem. Re: BRICK WORK DILEMMA!! 13Dec 02, 2008 1:14 pm They will do anything to get out of a bit of extra work!!
