Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 29, 2008 12:04 pm We've been in our new place for a month now and have finally admitted to ourselves that the reception is absolutely shocking...we've only got one channel thats got a good picture. Our TV is digital but we cant pick anything up on there at present...sooo... its time to fork out some cash and get a new aerial fitted. Foxtel had to bite the dust when we invested in the property (we all have to make sacrifices!!!) so this really is a must for us.
We've got someone coming around this arvo to give us a quote to tell us what we need and what it will cost, so I wanna be prepared to ask the right questions and for whether or not we're being ripped off. Thanks all Rach xxxx Re: Analogue or Digital Antenna/Aerial? Costs for fitting? 2Nov 30, 2008 6:23 am Nobody??
Oh well...the guy didnt show up anyway!! Re: Analogue or Digital Antenna/Aerial? Costs for fitting? 3Nov 30, 2008 7:12 am I understand your plight and have the same sort of issue in our current rental.
Ours is luckily only 1 station that is really bad although the others have poor reception at times too . We don't watch a lot of tv but it's frustrating when you do want to watch something and you can't. I'll be interested in what response you get as well for when our house is complete. Try asking in the "Home Theatre & Automation with Rod section" It's kind of along the lines of tv's and such and I notice most posts about them are in there/ Re: Analogue or Digital Antenna/Aerial? Thanks all Rach xxxx Hey Rach, COmpletely missed this thread! OK if you have all the wiring etc and none need replacing You should be up for around $70 - $100 for a good digital antenna and a further $70ish to put it up and tune it and your TV's in. Sorry to hear the guy didn't turn up. ;( Bloody tradies! Re: Analogue or Digital Antenna/Aerial? Costs for fitting? 7Nov 30, 2008 9:42 am Great thanks for that Matt. When I spoke to the guy on the phone the ball park figure he came up with was $250...plus it may need a transmitter or something or other????
I'll see what the next guy says...thats two who havent turned up when promised...like you say...bloody tradies!!! Re: Analogue or Digital Antenna/Aerial? Costs for fitting? 8Nov 30, 2008 9:47 am Try your local 'jims' franchise!
We have heaps of them on our books at work and they seem to be fairly reliable. Re: Analogue or Digital Antenna/Aerial? Thats the guy who didnt show yesterday... He did try to phone me 3 hours after he was due to arrive though but I was at the circus (as I told him I would be)...I'll see if he rings again. He seemed a nice guy but when they dont show when promised it drives me nuts!! Hes not the guy who quoted $250 plus though Re: Analogue or Digital Antenna/Aerial? Costs for fitting? 10Nov 30, 2008 5:50 pm Dont suppose you can recommend one we should buy Matt could you??
Then we just have to concentrate on getting the right price for fitting Re: Analogue or Digital Antenna/Aerial? Costs for fitting? 11Nov 30, 2008 10:46 pm We went with Jim's....with a roof pitch of 25 degrees, we weren't about to get up there ourselves. For antenna, mount and 3-way splitter, plus installation on our scary roof, it cost $280. We thought it was a bargain, since the antenna we were looking at was close to $200 to buy anyway.
Apparently we have perfect reception. We'll find out in a couple of weeks.... Re: Analogue or Digital Antenna/Aerial? No difference between an analog antenna and a digital ready one. It's marketing hoo haa. Does the antenna point towards the transmission towers? Are all the connections clean and water tight? (not corroded) Are there any buildings in the line of sight to the towers? Is it a ribbon cable or a coaxial cable running from the antenna to the TV point? Check the easy stuff before emptying your pockets to the antenna man. http://www.matchmaster.com.au/ Re: Analogue or Digital Antenna/Aerial? The one thing I do notice is that ours is just attached to below the guttering (single storey house) and all the others on the street are on the peak of the pitch of the roof and have a much higher pole. Maybe it just needs to be moved??? Re: Analogue or Digital Antenna/Aerial? Costs for fitting? 15Dec 01, 2008 9:32 am d@n I thought digital tv just meant the way the signal was processed. The signal being sent is digital...1's and 0's. And you either receive it or you don't and digital can be recieved at lower signal level than analog can ....that's why the picture can sometimes stop or pixellate. Digital does not ghost either in low signal areas. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Brilliant - thanks so much for that. I didn't want to start pulling too hard on it if there was some other way it was attached, but yep, it was just the paint sticking it… 2 3175 I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this.
