I got my drawings today. I have wooden front windows. I don't know if I'm supposed to have wooden front windows..... but apparently I do. WTF???? Why didn't someone mention this? Jo I think the display has timber... Ed You are right Ed... but we are having a different facade. A builder giving expensive feature windows as standard?? Whoever heard of such a thing? Petal, painting them is the obvious solution, but they'll face north and we'll void all warranties on the windows because they are painted a dark colour. Donuts, very tempted to change them to aluminium and take the credit. I have searched through my paperwork, I cannot find any mention of timber windows. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: More important to match windows to facade or interior? 63Jan 22, 2009 10:13 am If it was me, change to aluminium and take the credit. I think about the maintenance aspect, painting windows every year is not something I want to do.
Have you seen the facade you picked on a house anywhere? Perhaps go and look again and see if you feel that you would get the same look with alum windows. Re: More important to match windows to facade or interior? 64Jan 22, 2009 10:18 am Back Pocket, I've never seen my facade anywhere.
That's the thing about my builder... you can basically do what you want. We started with a standard facade.... but changed a few things (windows, pillar sizes and shapes for the portico). So my facade doesn't actually exist anywhere. I love wooden windows.... but who's going to paint them? Not me! The credit is looking good at the moment. Is that the house with the butt glazed corner window? I am surprised if there is a credit for moving to aluminium... So what choices did they give you for colour for the timber windows? Ed Ed Re: More important to match windows to facade or interior? 66Jan 22, 2009 10:24 am Ed, it's that house, but we are not having that facade. We don't have a butt corner window. And yes all our windows will be double glazed.
I think they will give a credit. We made one of the pillars to the portico slimmer and they gave us a credit. Anything we've deleted, even if it's standard, we have recieved a credit. We were not given any choices about colour.... that's why I didn't know they were timber. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Generally aluminium in the commercial world is cheaper than timber (excepting the extra maintenance), so I would be surprised if there is a credit - but who knows. I don't see how they can limit your colour choice if they have not limited it in the contract - if that means you need aluminium - so be it. Ed Re: More important to match windows to facade or interior? 68Jan 22, 2009 11:27 am Timber windows are far more expensive in house building. Most builders charge pretty heftily for them.
Yeah they will let me have aliminium I'm sure. My builder is pretty good.... I was just so surprised that I even have timber windows to the facade because no-one told me. I just have to have a little think. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Most builders charge pretty heftily for them. I just have to have a little think. I know - but there's cost then there's the price they charge... timber is cheaper, that's why the majors use timber bifolds (and timber sliding doors) - price to them is lower. Good luck...
