Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 22, 2008 5:48 pm I'm of the opinion that some builders have let down their clients in a very bad way. I'm not talking about the usual hiccups that result in a building project, but in the final appearance of the house.
The following pic is of a house under construction in my neighbourhood. It will be a very modern looking house when complete, and the facade has the typical tall windows in the front rooms. Complete with those horrible white rings on the window panes to let people know that there really is a window there . Why do some builders do this? Surely they realise it looks damn ugly? Re: Is it Olympic Rings? Is it an Audi? No, it's ugly windows! 2Nov 22, 2008 7:01 pm Not only does it look dead ugly...but the things dont work!! I walked into a window once and my face literally hit the huge bright red spot that was there to warn me the window was closed!! haha Re: Is it Olympic Rings? Is it an Audi? No, it's ugly windows! 4Nov 22, 2008 8:20 pm lol no one is going to walk through thoses windows...yes I think the builders should ask the clients when doin this; have an option...but I wouldnt mind them, thats just me.
I wanted those rings in my bi-fold doors for the alfresco but nope they didnt do it. Re: Is it Olympic Rings? Is it an Audi? No, it's ugly windows! 5Nov 22, 2008 8:47 pm Umm, we have similar on our sliding doors , as shown below in early days of construction , ours are actually interlocking diamonds, rather than rings, although I have seen the ring pattern too.
We were told it is a legal requirement to have a pattern of some sort on sliding glass doors, so people don't walk thru them , don't you have this on your sliding doors, Eager? - perhaps it is only SA law Can't see any need to put them on fixed windows though - unless it is to match the sliding doors so all glass windows/doors are alike? http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj187/nurselovescoffee/HPIM0736-1.jpg Re: Is it Olympic Rings? There are no markings on the window doors. There is a 15 cm base that needs to be stepped over and maybe this is the reason. Hope its not a new rule to them put on windows....we've got long ones like the picture. Re: Is it Olympic Rings? Is it an Audi? No, it's ugly windows! 12Nov 23, 2008 10:13 am we have them on our sliding doors as permanent but on the long windows (which we have to all down stairs) they are just stickers so we can remove them after handover Re: Is it Olympic Rings? Is it an Audi? No, it's ugly windows! 13Nov 23, 2008 10:31 am On doors, they make sense, even if they are ugly. But windows?
The place we're renting has long windows just like in the picture and I cannot fathom why those stickers are required. They aren't even full-length windows (clearance from floor is around 300mm), plus they're awning windows anyway, so it's not like they even open properly, and they're far too narrow to be mistaken for a door. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Pfft. Safety measures taken to ridiculous extremes. Those stickers have suddenly appeared on my timber-framed bifold doors sometime in the past few weeks. They're going, the minute I have possession! Narrow aluminium frames, like these in the rumpus room, might be harder to see, and I can live with the Olympic rings: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ .....but you'd have to be blind to not realise these doors are closed: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Is it Olympic Rings? There may be some easing in the future for windows - but for doors there will be no change. So how come the sliding window doors in my unit are free of marks? There is a 150 mm hob at the base, but otherwise all clear. They were built about 10 years ago. I have to say I've not seen this in Queensland anywhere? I also haven't heard many stories of people heading straight through a glass window... sliding doors you hear about all the time, but never so much the window itself.. Why would one be trying to run through a window anyway? Even if it was open.... Re: Is it Olympic Rings? Is it an Audi? No, it's ugly windows! 18Nov 23, 2008 4:26 pm karol Aaaah that looks stupid.
