This morning I was woken up at 8am by the people in the next apartment drilling into their walls, obviously doing some sort of renovation. We have common walls with them in our master bedroom, kitchen and living room.
Anyway, it was quite loud and I had the fleeting but "silly" thought as I sat eating breakfast that what if they came right through the wall with their drill.
I went to work and came home 6 hours later, and found the lamp was on. Very odd I thought, paranoid someone was in the house. Then upon closer inspection of the power point, I noticed I could not actually SEE the power point, as our large, glass-framed picture that HAD been hanging on the wall above it, was now on the floor, surrounded by shards of varying sizes of glass.
When I moved the picture aside, I saw the power point has had its front cover ripped off by the force of the impact from the falling picture (which weighs about 6kg), and also unfortunately our nice newly-painted wall has now got a huge gauge in it where the nail (designed to hold 11kg) has been ripped out.
I assume this was from the vibrations caused by nextdoor's drill, but who knows? The picture SEEMED secure, and had been hanging there for 2 months with no problems.
I am stressed out. We now have to get the picture re-framed, which will be expensive, and we have to get the power point fixed. I am SO glad we didn't have cats yet. The picture could've fallen on them, and the glass is all around where their scratching post is.
I'm really annoyed at this. How can we avoid this happening again? I don't want to hang the picture again and then have it crash down a second time.
