Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 19, 2008 2:06 pm Our pre-purchase inspection came back with a fairly good result one thing is an ant issue in one corner that may be from a nest (this is regular ants not termites)
Are we within our rights to ask them to get a pest company to take care of it? The offer is subject to us being happy with the pest and building inspection? We got a pretty good deal on the house so I feel a bit cheeky asking but perhaps it is fair enough as this is why we had the inspection in the first place. Thoughts? Re: pre-purchase inspection ants nest found ask for them to fix 2Nov 19, 2008 3:49 pm We have had ant problems, and all I can say is:
GET IT FIXED!!!!! Otherwise they'll nest somewhere in your house and it's HORRIBLE. We've had 3 infestations now, and I've lots ALL of my photos in one, Dad a box of old paperwork that he kept for keep sakes (like information related to the first house he and Mum bought, autographs, photos, etc etc), and then my brother had them all down the side of his bed and we had to chuck it out. They lay horrible little white eggs on paper/cardboard/material and it's disgusting. They end up everywhere through your house..... We never realised how bad they were (we just ignored them) until the nests formed. I can't explain the grossness enough...... Re: pre-purchase inspection ants nest found ask for them to fix 3Nov 19, 2008 3:53 pm I would ask how much for a ant treatment. if it's only under $200 I would just organise it myself.
You got a good price, I don't think it's that expensive to treat. If it was termites or building damage that would be another story!! Re: pre-purchase inspection ants nest found ask for them to fix 4Nov 20, 2008 8:42 pm we have black ant issue along the street. They come from the front and undeneath our rental house from the front yard. I have used ant powder but they come back after few weeks. Can pest control professional get rid of ant completely? And how much will this cost? Re: pre-purchase inspection ants nest found ask for them to fix 5Nov 20, 2008 8:47 pm A pest control company can spray and keep the ants away.
Their spray lasts 12 months so you would need to have them back every year. A 25Square house would set you back approx $250 to $300. Re: pre-purchase inspection ants nest found ask for them to fix 6Nov 20, 2008 10:07 pm Or, before that, try using ant-rid. It's a honey-like substance the ants collect and take back to the nest as food, which then spreads through the nest killing the ants in the nest. We've used it to very good effect with a couple of different ant nests at our place, but you will have ants coming back after a while as a new nest pops up.
Another alternative my mum swears by is using bay leaves across likely ant paths--apparently they don't like it much! --Mike Everything I know, I learned from SBS.
