In your case perhaps "Build a false wall for mounting".
My best advice: Have less shoes. Do the hard jobs first. Thanks Going off on a tangent here.....id be nervous that the only thing seperating your garage from another is a chipboard wall. usually this should be a party wall, built of substantial construction to achieve a decent fire rating between the two. I wish to get rid of them for more horizontal space which is why I am looking at the walls. Looks like I'll have to start "culling" shoes NO!!! Culling shoes is very drastic measure Surely there is some other solution! Re: Garage walls are chipboard. 8Nov 20, 2008 10:42 am donuts DIYrookie I do have 2 galvanised free standing shelves. Why not buy some bookshelves, then use the clear plastic boxes so that you can see what your looking for, when you want it? They dont take up too much space and you can put as many on the wall as your wall space will allow??? Maybe check out Ikea? They have faily cheap ones like the Billy range in various colours that will look great. BUT NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T CULL SHOES.... Re: Garage walls are chipboard. 12Nov 20, 2008 12:56 pm ed. Culling shoes results in a forum ban Good one ed. I like that.... lol Re: Garage walls are chipboard. 14Nov 24, 2008 7:37 am you're all so funny with the reaction of culling shoes.... I was feeling kinda sad today but reading your replies made me laugh...thank you. Hubby has around 20 pairs of shoes (runners, work shoes, sandles, slippers, high cuts) and I haver around 50 ...yeah...I'm a bit of shoe-fanatic...yeah...Imelda's my hero. I watched Sex in the City movie and saw the wardrope Mr B built for Carrie and I nearly OD in the cinema. Man, did I stare and drool...to the embarressment of hubby....after the movie, I was giving such loving looks and he kept shaking his head saying no way I was getting such a wardrope ANYWAYS...back to the problem...shelves are great with the plastic boxes but they take up cubic space. I was hoping to "hang my shoes in the air" OMG! I've just had an idea!!!!! Maybe I could put up those wire brackets, hang a pole and then hang my shoes on those shoe hangers and then hang them on the pole.....???!!! What do you all think?? So they hang their washings on a bamboo pole and stick them outside when the sun is out. When it rains however, the poles come in and they're placed onto metal brackets fixed on the ceiling. The metal brackets look like two letters J stuck together, with the long side of the alphabet joined, something like a fishing hook. One metal bracket on each end of the laundry area (directly below is where they have their washing machine or just a space used to store things). The bamboo pole sits on each bracket and then you use a shoe hanger (those you see in Wal-mart or K-mart), hang your shoes and then hang onto the bamboo. Hope you can picture it. Re: Garage walls are chipboard. 18Nov 24, 2008 12:01 pm cielly that's a great idea. Now DIY rookie just needs 10 of those to hang along her garage wall - hope the chipboard will hold them!?
sorry DIYrookie I don't get your metal bracket/bamboo pole idea either - have you got a pic? Ikea also have good shoe racks. Re: Garage walls are chipboard. 19Nov 25, 2008 7:55 am nah...can't find a picture...tried Google image. The next time I go home, I'll snap a couple of pictures but I doubt they sell those brackets anymore. The new flats in Singapore have more modern tools for hanging their washings indoors But to give some idea, the IKEA curtain hook where the pole rest on, is similar. That's an idea as well...getting those hooks from IKEA..hmm, maybe it is time to go IKEA again.....or maybe...I should try to invent something and maybe...just maybe...appear on that ABC TV show..for innovative products...
