Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 18, 2008 12:09 pm Following on from the other recent thread, I have a question about noggins. When you are hanging your picture frames, how can you hang them all up evenly when the noggins are at different levels between each stud?
Or does your average picture not weigh enough to warrant nailing it to a noggin? And what about very heavy pieces which would definitely require a noggin, but you haven't put one in at frame stage? How do you hang them? Re: Another noggin question 3Nov 18, 2008 4:33 pm Whether or not a picture requires more than a hook nailed into the plaster is your own judgement call really, however I've hung some decent sized ones this way.
A good method is to use a plaster wall-mate. You can hang anything up to 10kg on one of those. Then you can put it where ever you like. I had to hang a huge framed picture (with glass on front) so I put 1 screw into a stud that was off-centre then used one of the plaster wall-mates at the same height on the other side (in symetry from the centre vertical line of the picture) - thus using 2 hooks. Worked a treat. Forget about the noggins, unless they happen to be exactly where you want them. Re: Another noggin question 4Nov 19, 2008 8:42 am Buy a stud finder, theyre cheap.
Theyll tell you exactly where the studs are behind the plasterboard. Pat. Re: Another noggin question 5Nov 19, 2008 8:16 pm thanks for the replies guys. I agree studs are the preferable thing to attach them to as you can choose any height, and we have a stud finder. I was more thinking about what if you had 3 frames you wanted to hang right next to each other at a certain height, also the studs might not be where I want to hang my things.
Rodda those wall-mate things sound good I will look into those for the heavy things, thanks! Re: Another noggin question 6Nov 19, 2008 8:57 pm Id agree also with Rodda.
We have at current anything from a heavy solid timber mirror approx 1200x800 to a 2000x900 canvas print plus plenty more all hanging via wall mates. Make sure you use the plastic ones, otherwise with the metal ones you do not want to pierce wiring behind the gyprock. JB Re: Another noggin question 11Aug 17, 2009 12:40 pm We've just put in some of those hooks (take 10kgs) to take our bathrails as our SS totally forgot & we forgot to check also VEry happy with them. AND if you have really large pictures you can use two across for 48 Kilos total! They really do work fine for heavy stuff, I have used these before.
