You said yourself Lyn those are cheaper end houses, maybe for some families the 3k - 4k was better spent going towards another bedroom to actually live in, than some eaves. Just my 2c. I would expect to see houses like that in Cranbourne West (having owned a few rentals there) and if all the houses around you are the same why build the Taj Mahal. 'When in Rome....' There is a place in buildings for these designs as not everyone has the same taste. Some times it has to come down to dollars and space. To me (and this was even before getting into building) I'd think (rightly or wrongly) they built it on the cheap and if they were too cheap to pay the extra for eaves what else did they scrimp on ?. Its harsh but I think it looks like an incomplete house and that would bother me.
Also I couldn't count the number of people who have said "oh just please build a house with eaves" when I mentioned I was building. It really does bug so many people. EDITED: Its when the looks like its "supposed" to have them where it looks wrong.
