Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 16, 2008 12:33 am Hi,
I am building with a medium sized builder, Carlisle in Melbourne. On Friday, the plasterers and bricklayers were working. Plaster was cemented with that stuff they use. I am following the Caroline Springs display. In tender appt, we opted for the feature plaster line bulkhead and hob, with gap in the middle. This usually had a fireplace, provisions, feature paintings on it. In the tender, it states clearly to: Provide full length plaster lined hob returning from family room into rumpus room wall approx 450mm deep and 650 mm high, including plasterline bulkhead above as per Caroline Springs Atlantique Mk 2 display. Excluding granite top, fireplace, provisions and feature panelling. The final construction drawings also reflect this. But, after closer inspection, after asking the plasterers politely if we could come in, (no supervisor there), we found that the hob has been done wrongly. First, the base hob has a step in it, which it shouldnt. ie.. it goes in, then out again. Drawings state that it should be flush. And, there is no plaster line bulkhead, like we agreed. What theyve done is they have done like a mini plaster hob on top of the main base one. WRONG! There should not be that mini hob. There is an intruding wall of bed 4 next to it. They have not done the above bulkhead. I gave the supervisor a call, he said he was busy, and would call back. Havent heard a thing, and left a mesage. Then i called the client liasion.. and she said she would look into it, call supervsor and get back to e on monday.. What can we do?? Do they have to fix it? This is costing us $1300 for that whole hob............. Look at my attachments. You have a contract, what's on the plans is final! So, double check your plans and that's what you should get, they can't get around it. They will fix it for you! Its the flashing and is normal. Some builders cover them up others just leave them handing. You can cover it up with an aluminium bracket or ask the builder. 7 8411 you need to understand the breakdown of warranties. 90 warranty is considered as minor defects rectification period where as the longer ones are more major/structural… 1 3870 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
