What's it like living in a weatherboard home (without any air con) during summer?.
The winters don't bother me that much as you can easily get warm, but hot weather can be so.............. draining.

Looking at a weather board are you? Very Charming! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: weatherboard in summer? 3Nov 15, 2008 7:23 pm pleeeeeeaaaase line the walls with insulation.
We are currently renting one with obviously NONE OF THE STUFF !!! This past winter was a shocker. So !@#$%^ cold ! On the worst nights I would be sitting in the lounge wearing 2 polar fleece tops !! We had 5 heaters going in a 4 bed house - our electricity bill was astronomical !!! We're absolutely terrified of the coming summer months with temperatures in the high 30s & mid 40s, for days on end !!! I imagine a properly insulated weatherboard would be reasonably OK in summer if using ceiling fans & not AC. I wouldn't buy one...too much upkeep. Have no idea if it's got any bats. I'm going to miss the solid brick i'm in now. Re: weatherboard in summer? 5Nov 15, 2008 7:37 pm [quote="d@n]

I'd try to find out whether it's lined with batts ! If not - give it away & find something else ! Re: weatherboard in summer? 7Nov 15, 2008 8:01 pm It depends on whether you have verandah's around shading the walls?
Yes they can be hotter than brick if not shaded or insulated properly... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: weatherboard in summer? 8Nov 15, 2008 9:40 pm I lived in a weatherboard for 11 yrs, the first year we had no cooling ( but we did have wall insulation ) and it mainly only got warm in the family room which faced North/West. Now I am stuck in a brick house ( temporary thank god! ) which has no cooling other than ceiling fans and it is an absolute hot box!! 30 degrees in here the other day, just sweltering. It is going to be a long summer! Solid brick usually takes a day or two to heat up and the same to cool down. Do you not get those sort of delays?. insulation in the roof also helps. Re: weatherboard in summer? 10Nov 15, 2008 10:31 pm I'm in Melbourne...it was hot here on Wednesday after a not too hot Tues. It got to 30 in here on Wed., stayed that way all of Thurs.! No relief overnight! Not sure about what is in the roof. We have eaves though...and they r useless!! Re: weatherboard in summer? 11Nov 16, 2008 6:34 am having lived in a brick house, then a double brick house and now own a weatherboard home..
With double brick and to a degree brick house it takes a day and a half of really hot weather to heat the house up, but with weatherboard it takes just a day. That is a house with proper insultation and only a few north facing windows. Cools down no probs during the night (double brick house once it has hotted up stays hot for a while too) Air con does a good job. 2 5965 1 19743 |
