Biggest mistake I made with my DIY carport was not double-checking council setback rules, had to redo part of it because it was too close to the boundary 🤦♂️. Also, definitely overbuild your posts and footings. I thought I was saving money with lighter materials, but Brisbane storms had other plans. If I did it again, I’d spend a bit more upfront for sturdier beams and proper drainage.
