Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 11, 2008 9:56 pm Hey Guys
Just another quick one from me Was out at the block today and one of our fences is in BAD shape, sort of sloping and pales missing etc We are obviously going to get it fixed to a new fence, and a higher one at that, I think the good one on the other side is 1.8m or 2m not really sure and it is a lighter wood colour - more of a yellow tone. I was just wondering if anyone knows a rough idea of cost for a standard fence like this - measuring about 37m? Could someone do the new fence in a day/two or is it a big job, reason I ask is we may apply to get it done now before the build is due to start late next week... Thanks for any advice My karma ran over your dogma Re: Fencing Question 3Nov 11, 2008 10:42 pm Bel, last time we had a fence done it took at least 2-3 days (and that was with DH removing the old fence...and that took another day). On the first day, they did the posts and so had to let the concrete set and then they did the rails and the palings over a couple of days, I think,...it was a long fence (50m maybe??)
But, as ChrisL said, it may be wise to wait until after you build 'chelle We have a hand-over date...15/10...but I won't hold my breath! http://people-in-glass-houses.blogspot.com/ Re: Fencing Question 5Nov 12, 2008 8:30 am we just had a 1.8m colorbond fence put up, it worked out to be about $85/metre I think, that was including taking the old fence down and removing rubbish.
I think this post is old but since I finally saw something I had a clue about - thought I'd throw in my 2c!!! Re: Fencing Question 7Nov 12, 2008 8:56 am The block I've bought needs to have fencing replaced, but like Chris said, we've been told to get it done after as it may get damaged again during building. A good estimate of price is that it would be around $80-87/metre. I've written over a thousand posts and I don't have a clue about much Re: Fencing Question 9Nov 12, 2008 10:15 am We recently got a paling fence replaced, which worked out at around $50/m. This was at the higher end of the quotes I got back, but we'd seen the work of the fencers before and thought it looked nice and solid. This didn't include removal, as the fence had already "gone to a better place" (aka Clayton landfill...). Probably looking at around $10/m for removal from memory. I guess God didn't use subbies... Re: Fencing Question 10Nov 13, 2008 5:28 pm We just got back a quote for putting up a colorbond post fence. 1.8m high was $66 per meter.
Cost to remove existing fence was about $10m but the guy suggested that we do it ourselves to save costs and then sell the sheets of galv from the current fence. He thought we would get about about $5 per sheet from a scrap yard. regards sean Re: Fencing Question 12Nov 13, 2008 5:35 pm Thanks for all the replies guys
I think we will just pay the fence guy to remove it as I cant see us reusing the timber or getting rid of it Atleast I know to look out for about $40-$60/m in our quotes Thanks guys My karma ran over your dogma Re: Fencing Question 14Nov 16, 2008 5:40 am mine was 42m long we did 1.85m high with treated pine for $2200 half this with next door. Had to pay 60-40 because one side didnt want to do it unless we pay more. The price include removing old fence. Three quotes were about the same price. Best to do it after building or just before completion or it might get damage. Re: Fencing Question 15Nov 16, 2008 1:44 pm There are fencers and then there are fencers. I have seen a lot of bad jobs done by fencers (usually the cheaper ones) and within a couple of years the fence is leaning over. Most fencers mix the concrete in the hole with dirt and all and sometimes they don't completely mix it which means the posts are not as solid as they should be which leads to the fence leaning over time. Cheaper fencers usually mean they are cutting a few corners like that so don't just take the cheapest quote.
2 days is all that would be needed for a fence of that size. Re: Fencing Question 18Aug 19, 2009 6:08 pm Hi in regards to your fence if you decide to get a T/P standard paling fence there are a few things to look out for with the cheaper quotes . 1 check to make sure the rails are screwed not nailed 2 make sure they use proper concrete mix in the holes (not dirt mixed with broken bricks and some cement 3 make sure they quote 1 and a half inch plinths screwed on or better (not 1 inch this will warp down the track And also that they use galvanised nails screws etc not just steel If you check these things your fence will last you years and years Re: Fencing Question 19Aug 19, 2009 9:30 pm grandscapes 3 make sure they quote 1 and a half inch plinths screwed on or better (not 1 inch this will warp down the track ) we;re getting quotes now for lap'n'cap fencing. what are plinths, grandscapes ? Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Fencing Question 20Aug 20, 2009 3:09 pm The plinth board is the timber running across the bottom of the fence on which the palings sit. Need to remove glass panel out of concrete without wrecking the glass to get the spa room in, any recommendations on how to do that. Thank you 0 39024 We are at the stage on our build in Kilcoy, Queensland where we need to get our fencing installed but we cant get any contact details for our neighbours to give them… 0 6131 thank you! do we need to get this or our builder before we commence new build on the block? 2 10261 |
