Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 11, 2008 2:00 pm Hi all
Our house is almost done and the texture finish has been completed. One of our walls is a parapet wall, so the neighbour has a nice new textured wall, instead of an old asbestos fence. However, she's made the comment that she's going to paint some artwork on the wall. I'm pretty sure she can't as it's the side of my house, and it's built 20mm inside the boundary. We can see the wall as we approach the house from the front, and I'm not sure graffiti really fits in with the look we're going for. Am I missing something? My $0.02 Inside your property boundary and its your house, I dont think so either. But obviously the side of your house is acting as the fence line. I would quick smart either put up a paling fence to protect your house, or get ready for some serious neighbourly talking. Re: Parapet Wall 3Nov 12, 2008 1:16 pm Who decided on the 20mm & why ? Re: Parapet Wall 4Nov 12, 2008 2:21 pm Its your wall and she cant paint it and I wouldn't let her. If it was a fence then she would pay half and she can do what she likes to here side. I've never heard of this problem before but there is no way I would let anyone paint anything on my house. Re: Parapet Wall 5Nov 12, 2008 2:40 pm No I would disagree.
If the wall is located on the boundary (technically) then the 'face' is possibly at the neighbours discression to do as they wish. Anything above 2.0 met - then i'm not sure of. If the parapet is 20mm inside your boundary, & that opens a 'can of worms', then the face would be yours. Having said that I assume your purpose in the small setback was to accomodate your building design & that the existing fence (if any) was removed. Re: Parapet Wall 7Nov 13, 2008 7:42 am Hmmm..... I don't think this would bother me if it was my place.... you can't see the wall but she can.
BUT if it does bother you, I think you better look at putting a fence up, because it is in effect her boundary. Or maybe you could talk to her about what she's thinking of doing and see if you could work out some type of compromise? She could paint something that's not too out there? Or low down so it can't be seen from the street? Just trying to think of ways to avoid a sh*t fight.... I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Agree, Riviera from Clarendon looks beautiful. I've seen one with a light-colored bricks and just a bit of molding (in my neighborhood). It's definitely overpriced.
