Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 29, 2024 10:31 am I am having some issues with the supplier of a kit steel garage. This may result in cancellation of the order. The supplier has agreed to refund what I have paid so far, excluding the cost for the engineering drawings - i.e. he will only refund for materials. I have no information in the contract outlining what the engineering drawings cost, and a correspondence with the supplier suggested I wouldn't get much of a refund from the $7000 I have paid so far. To give me an idea whether the supplier is being 'honest' in this refund, does anyone have an idea what these engineering drawings would likely cost? Garage is steel, 6400w x 7000l x 3000h, roller door at each end, 25 degree pitch roof. Thanks Re: Engineering Drawings for Double Steel Garage? 2Oct 29, 2024 4:50 pm I thought most of those kit building are standard drawings that is pre-engineered for a range of soil types and wind ratings. If even an engineer is required to place his signature on, this shouldn’t exceed the $100s in range to type up a certificate/form for the new client address. I’m not sure if the manufacturer would give the kit building to be engineered from scratch every time he has a new client. Re: Engineering Drawings for Double Steel Garage? 4Oct 29, 2024 6:45 pm You said it’s a kit steel garage. If it’s made say for example from steel portals, it can be any length by adding more frames, or any width by having standard designs for a range of widths. Anyway you can ask for the engineering plans and find out the date it was signed/drawn/designed. Re: Engineering Drawings for Double Steel Garage? 6Oct 30, 2024 2:23 pm If you have the plans, you should be able to know if it’s generic or not. At least from the date it was drawn and signed. Also if the plans include a range of designs not just your specific site requirements. For example if it covers a wide range of soil types “class A - M” or “class H1-E” and not referring to your soil report. Also if it covers a range of wind ratings for example it says ‘up to N3’. Re: Engineering Drawings for Double Steel Garage? 8Oct 30, 2024 6:07 pm Eng. B A Definitely not generic. There are three documents, one called 'constuction package for cold formed steel building', one called 'structural notes', and the other called 'certificate of independent technical expert for proposed building work' Pedro4137 I assume what I have mentioned above would cover those two costs?
