They are fitted with spiral balances which fail over time. You can buy them everywhere and I now have the technique for replacing them quickly. The ‘new’ part of the house (1980s) has ‘new’ double hung timber (cedar) windows. They are also supported with spiral balances BUT they are enclosed in an aluminium channel that runs the entire length of the window opening. This was obviously an improved design (in the 80s) to reduce play and movement in the window BUT the entire channel and spiral balance has to come out in one go - necessitating removing the window. Before I start that I spent 2 hours googling to try and find any reference to this type of window mounting. Nothing. I dont want to to pull it apart before I know I can get the parts to to put it back! Any ideas? Has anyone seen double hung timber windows that run in an aluminium channel with the spiral balance inside it? The design you’re describing with the spiral balances enclosed in an aluminum channel is definitely less common, which could explain the lack of information online. Before you start removing the window, I’d recommend reaching out to local suppliers or specialized window manufacturers who might be familiar with this design. They may have the parts or be able to direct you to a source. Another option is to check forums or groups focused on window restoration or renovation, as someone might have encountered a similar setup and could offer insight or resources. If you do end up needing to remove the window, make sure to take detailed notes or photos as you go—this could help when reassembling. Good luck, and I hope you find the parts you need! you can visit my site KitchenSupports. I am looking for 5.1 channel speaker system.
