Colour assistance related to PermaTimber Cladding and entry

Dear All,

I need your help with cladding. My builder is using PermaTimber cladding instead of Western Red cedar as originally planned. Have you used PermaTimber for your cladding? If yes, it would be great if you can post the photo of your cladding with the type of cladding / colour you have used.

PermaTimber® has multiple profile options and I am looking into CX Original Cladding and CX castellated cladding and both of them have 3 colour choices ‘Tasmanian Oak’ , ’Spotted Gum’ and ‘Ebony’. Out of that I am leaning towards ’Spotted Gum’ and then ‘Tasmanian Oak’. Not preferring ‘Ebony’ as it is more of black grey.

At this moment I am more worried about the colour matching between cladding and the timber entry door ( Corinthian Infinity Merbau INF 14G 1020mm wide * 2340mm high door). I have selected ’Spotted Gum’ for cladding and Cabots ‘Dark Oak’ colour Varnish stain 3 coats on Merbau timber door as well as Colorbond timber look garage door with classic cedar colour. I heard Cabots are very poor on colour pallets and often looks totally different in the actual application. Any one be able to share some photos of ‘Dark Oak’ on Merbau timber.


Long story short, below are my selections. Do you think I would better of be using some other colour from Cabots?

PermaTimber ‘Spotted Gum’ + Cabots ‘Dark Oak’ on Merbau timber entry door + Colorbond classic cedar garage door.

If you have gone through the same problem of colour matching between cladding and door, could you please share your thoughts? Also, anyone has any bad experience with the durability of PermaTimber. I know they have been around for a while, but it is not being used in large scale.
