Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 05, 2024 2:36 pm Hi Team, we recently purchased a 1964 weatherboard home and are looking to re plaster in some rooms. I’ve come across this stuff (see picture) in linen cupboards and was wondering if anyone had come across it before or new what it is. I have a feeling it’s fibrous plaster board with horse hair or some other type of fibre. Any ideas if it contains asbestos or is dangerous. Thanks for your time. Not asbestos We are Expert Consultant's, and we are here to help. That brown colour looks like Masonite or hardboard. Get it checked but typically asbestos was used in wet areas and plaster board or Masonite in other areas 1 13845 ![]() 1 16758 ![]() Normally you would strip it all out back to studs and joists. You usually can’t easily remove the tiles without damaging the asbestos sheet. Better to remove whole wall… 1 15156 |
