Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 03, 2024 10:13 am Hi all, I'm excavating a footing to build a front wall next to the footpath. I've excavated the footing (8 m long, 600 wide, 600 mm deep) and there is an old sleeved gas line running through it, for which my structural engineer has mentioned I need to get the requirements from the 'relevant authority', which seems to be my gas retailer (origin) but they weren't much help. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this type of thing and can offer some advice? The sleeve is 50mm diameter steel pipe covered with some hard black coating/tape. The steel pipe goes all the way from footpath and under the front lawn for 5 - 6 m until it's close to the gas meter which is attached to the house. Inside the steel pipe is a smaller black plastic pipe (with yellow stripe I think) which connects to a copper pipe which then goes to the gas meter. Should the steel pipe also be encased in something before I pour the foundation concrete around it? Any idea what the building surveyor be looking for in regards to this? If it's too much drama I'm also considering just getting the entire gas line removed as we will be switching to 100% electricity in the next 12 months or so anyway hopefully. Thanks for any help or advice PM me your email. I have a build excavation calculator you can use based on your plans to double check what your builder is telling you. Cheers Simeon 1 25396 I've dug some footings to embed a post anchor into. My holes are around 450mm deep which I'll put a 200mm stirrup into. The bottom of these holes seem firm enough. … 0 10685 there is a standard besser block wall pdf somewhere online with footing sizes, also have a look at dincel. 1 11898 |
