Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 11, 2024 9:53 pm Hi there, we are adding a small ikea kitchenette into our house as my wife is setting up a family day care. It will be like a mini kitchen with hob, oven, fridge and extractor. It will be properly installed by a builder, and it will change the room use from a rumpus room to a big open almost studio room. We are in NSW and do we need to get planning consent on this? It is not a separate dwelling but if we ever sold it, we could position it as a living area for grown up teenagers or parents but it is still connected to the main house and doesnt have separate entrance or utilities. Effectively it's like a second kitchen. I've been looking online but I cannot see any rules about this, is it exempt or do I need to get permission from council. My wife has all the council childcare safety regulations and thats fine but just wanted to know about planning regulations. Can anyone offer any advice.
