Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 20, 2024 9:47 am l live 4 km from the coast l have a colorbond roof 13 years old , some of the screws have just started to rust and l am getting them replaced, the plumber said theres no rust on the roof itself but he said it will start to rust in several years and l will probably have to replace it in 10-15 years which will probably cost $25K l think, l was wondering if theres a way l can extend the life of the roof to prevent it from rusting, it has no rust at the moment , l would like to keep it that way, Would painting it with something extend its life or would it not make much difference, is it worth the cost of painting it, what would l get it painted with, some sort of rust inhibitor Re: Colorbond roof can you extend its life? 2Mar 22, 2024 8:59 am Painting your colorbond roof with a rust inhibitor can definitely help extend its life and prevent rust. It is worth the cost in the long term as it may be cheaper than having to replace the entire roof in the future. Look for a high quality paint specifically designed for metal roofs and ensure it includes a rust inhibitor. Other than that one of the best ways to extend the life of your roof is by regularly cleaning and inspecting it for any signs of corrosion or damage caused by salt spray. Make sure to wash your roof with fresh water regularly to remove any salt buildup and prevent rust from forming. Hope this helps!
