How would you recommend chipping away at this, to not damage the sturdiness’s of it? Cheers chippy Yes you can. We typically aim for 80mm of cover over footings and existing concrete. You can probably get away with a little less however if you want to make sure you don't end up with cracking then try and keep it as thick as possible. We would cut the conc with a quick cut. Just cut to the depth you need and put a number of slits across the concrete about 20mm apart then knock them off. It would take about 5 minutes per footing to cut and knock it off. Once you are close to the edge of the path the chance of cracking is minimised.
