Timber retaining wall degradation assistance

Hi all,

I have a query in regards to a timber retaining wall that had degraded over time. We only recently moved into the property. The retaining wall is between the home and a neighbours home which is at a higher elevation

As you can see the bottom row appears to be newer / in much better condition to the top row

The top row has some gaps in between the pieces of timber and also the timber appears to be splitting in some areas. We are worried the retaining wall has been compromised


What are our options here?
