It's cheaper than stupid eaves! http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/2008-06-19_22-43-54_19062008134.jpg I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Nice photo... yet again illustrating that eaves not only look better but are multi-purpose!! I might be getting eaves. Don't tell Eager... or Mattwalker!!! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: The beauty of eaves (sorry Matt) 6Oct 31, 2008 7:58 pm Cleishy How can anyone debate against eaves??? Very. very easily.... especially on east and west sides where eaves offer limited protection from the sun.... and NO protection from low sun and the money could be better utilised on shading devices more effective against the low sun. South they are useless.... it's only North that they actually work. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Yeah, but Jo, that is only first thing in the morning or last thing in the evening (and a BENEFIT in winter!!) rest of the day the sun is sharing it's love from way up in the sky, not down on the horizon. Yep on to the top of your roof.... so no need for eaves!!! You're winning this debate for me..... I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: The beauty of eaves (sorry Matt) 11Oct 31, 2008 8:17 pm Lyn the sun does actually travel between both horizons ... it doesn't just pop up to directly above your roof and stay there until sunset! Terrence Malick Re: The beauty of eaves (sorry Matt) 13Oct 31, 2008 8:49 pm Eaves were eliminated to help squeeze McMansions onto ludicrously small blocks. The justifications came later. Do the hard jobs first. The easy jobs will take care of themselves. - Dale Carnegie Re: The beauty of eaves (sorry Matt) 14Oct 31, 2008 9:09 pm No, I think in many cases it is just cost cutting. Our estate has huge blocks and even the little houses don't have eaves (cheap little houses - Frenken and Burbank's basic models). Re: The beauty of eaves (sorry Matt) 16Oct 31, 2008 9:22 pm Lyn Must admit, I was amused to read Matt's post about his electricity bill... You guys are having an effect on me! What can I say?? ....must resist.....evil eaves....waste of money .... good for dogs (and washing) I have / do neither.... Have clothes dryer and self maintaining cat...eaves still waste of money.... Perhaps one day ... but not this day Re: The beauty of eaves (sorry Matt) 17Oct 31, 2008 9:24 pm Well, if you use your clothes dryer that much, your electricity bills will skyrocket!!!!!!!!!!!
Like I said- who really cares about that - they just look good!!!! I don't have them on the south wall though but have them everywhere else. Re: The beauty of eaves (sorry Matt) 19Oct 31, 2008 9:35 pm Yeah, I've noticed a few of those new estates have eaves of some description as part of their requirements.
We bulldozed and rebuilt, so no requirements, we just like the look (in case I hadn't made that clear!!! ) Our house had 450mm eaves to the front facade, but that was it, so we made them 600mm , and had them put all the way around ! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: The beauty of eaves (sorry Matt) 20Oct 31, 2008 9:52 pm A debate on eaves??? Yes they look good, but how much do they add to the cost of the build?? Maybe people are opting not to get them and spend their money on, oh, I don't know, bricks, windows, tiles, carpet, curtains, food!!...for some people the spending has to stop somewhere! I asked this question of one of the forum's resident cabinet makers who may/may not wish to identify himself to answer other questions if he sees this, but the rersponse… 3 7710 Update from me! Couldn't find the trimmer - not sure if there isn't one simply because the eave is so narrow. Went ahead with the spring toggles and it all worked out… 7 5836 The two 15mm holes are obviously not compliant. The Dept of Fair Trading would love to see this one!
